ASPHALT RACING TIRE PREP
Courtesy of American Racer Tires
It is highly recommended that asphalt tires be hot lapped before racing. Hot lapping will set the ultimate size of the tire and allow you to set your stagger with more confidence. If your asphalt track was recently resurfaced, we recommend at least one and preferably two heat cycles (hot lap sessions) before the tires are used in a feature. Recently resurfaced asphalt tracks often have sharp edged aggregate and tend to blister tires. One or two heat cycles will reduce the tendency to blister.

Asphalt tires can be stretched to help achieve stagger requirements. After the bead has been set the tire can be aired up to ca 40 psi and set out in the sun. As the tire heats up in the sun it will stretch. If you use bleeder valves during the race, the stretched tire may shrink again.

In a similar way, asphalt tires can be shrunk. Get a lot of heat into the tire during a hot lap session and deflate the tire immediately. As the nylon cords cool, they will shrink. A word or warning, jack the car up before the tire is deflated.

SUNDAY AT THE RATTLER

"Post race tech decided the finish of the Pro Rattler 125 for the second straight year. Augie Grill was disqualified after it was found that he had a cambered rear-end. That gave the victory to Bubba Pollard."
Photo and news release courtesy of Speed 51.

Even though this race paid $20,000 to win, it had drivers from as far away as the east coast of Canada and as far west as California. What is very encouraging to race promoters all over the continent was the enormous entry list of approximately 80 cars. The old adage, "if you build it, they will come", is still evident in the racing world.

SPORTSMAN SATURDAY NIGHT

Canada West Racing Editorial

Saturday, May 9th will be one of the biggest nights of Sportsman racing in B.C. With an increase in the Katana Sportsman Tour prize money, along with the new Wescar/ARCA alliance, racers and fans will be in for a full night of action.

It would be nice to see the politics left to the politicians on their day, Tuesday, May 12th, and just enjoy the fact that 50 Sportsman racers will be racing throughout the province for prize money.

With race tracks and series around the country attempting to cut prize money and race dates, the future of racing in B.C. looks super strong. It would be nice to see competitors, enthusiasts and fans, getting out to support racing on May 9th. The future is ours, lets enjoy it!

ASA NORTHWEST LATE MODEL TOUR
***Evans Wins First ASA NWLMT Race***

Wenatchee, WA (May 3, 2009) - Garrett Evans (E. Wenatchee, WA) waited until the final green flag lap to win the first ever iRacing.com ASA Northwest Late Model Tour feature. In 1985 Evans won the first ever Northwest Tour race. Gary Lewis (Snohomish, WA) a close 2nd and Brent Harris (E. Wenatchee, WA) was third. Twenty cars started the 'Apple Blossom 125' at Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval in E. Wenatchee, WA.
Evans took advantage of the new commit cone restarts. With first place Lewis and second place Harris choosing to go to the inside Evans went to the outside putting himself along side of Lewis at lap 119. When they got back to the finish line under green Evans beat Lewis by less than .200 of a second. Another caution came out as Evans and Lewis crossed the line. While getting the field lined for the restart the track got too wet forcing an early end to the 125 lap feature.

TARASENKO BACK IN 2009

This has been a turn around year for Jason Tarasenko driving the #21 Harding Motorsports Supply Impala SS. Starting off at the Opener in Western Speedway, posting a near track record qualifying effort and finishing second landed him in the top points position. Since then with another second and visiting Victory lane once has extended the points lead. "It is a great track to race 2 wide, the people are great and fans are awesome" he said. "Points lead or not we are here to have fun and race with great talent like the Morris brothers and the hard charging Tim Christy." Tarasenko also posted a third place in the first Katana Boat Sportsman series at Agassiz and second in total points for the day. "Time constraints with work may hamper the effort to run for points in both the series and at Western but we are going to try both."

The Harding Motorsports Impala is performing very well. "Having Shane help us with setup has been integral in getting comfortable in the car after a 2 year slow down in the number of races run." It has also revitalized the crew of Jordan Fyfe, Lesley McDowell, and Ryan Medynski. We would like to thank Harding Motorsports, UTI Transport, Walkabout Construction, Maximum Collision, and J&L Consulting for being on board and giving us the best opportunity to run well. Stop by and see us in the pits, and bring the kids for a free T-Shirt.

FANS ROCK WESTERN SPEEDWAY
Langford, B.C., July 25, 2009
Submitted by: Ken Keating

What was billed as the "Eve of Destruction", at Western Speedway, lived up to the billing in more ways than one. Demo Cars, Demo Trucks, Mini Vans, and Figure 8s ran a full program of Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and Main events. As well as racing, with these cars, Colin Heacock, known as the Crazy Canuck and Gary "the Animal" Williams were on the program jumping a car and a bus respectively. A boat race was also on this program of destruction. After a beautiful week of weather, Mother Nature decided to add her form of mayhem and added a little rain, actually quite a bit of rain, a little bit of lightening, and a gorgeous sunset for all to see. Despite the rain the 4,000 plus fans stayed and cheered on the racers and the jumpers at every opportunity, their determination undampened. Read more...

$40,000 WOLFF PACK RUN 2009 - LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA
The fifth annual Wolff Pack Run will be held at Bridge County Raceway in Lethbridge, Alberta August 1st and 2nd. This IMCA Canada and U.S. Modified race is proudly sponsored by Jaron Wolff Ltd. (Georg J.P. Wowk) and is held every year at a different location/track in Alberta, Canada. In its fifth year, it will be hosted for the second time by Bridge County Raceway. A little history...Jaron Wolff Ltd. (Georg J.P. Wowk) has been involved with IMCA Modified racing since the summer of 1992, when Georg and his brother Olee of Red Line Performance, built their first IMCA modified race car to race at Capital City Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta. Because neither of the two were drivers, they got a young Darren Hawkins to drive their modified. They raced their modified throughout western Canada with Darren at the wheel for three years. In the years that followed, Red Line Performance dropped out of oval racing and Jaron Wolff Ltd. went on alone. Jaron Wolff Ltd. sponsored racers such as Dawn-L Morrison, Danny Saunders, Dave Saunders and Scott Craig all whom raced in the Modified division. In 2005 Georg decided to sponsor a race rather than individual cars and drivers, thus the Wolff Pack Run was born. The first Wolff Pack Run was held at Edmonton International Raceway with 24 Modifieds participating. The 2006 Wolff Pack Run was held at Castrol Raceway with a field of 35 Modified cars and a purse of $15,000. In 2007 Race City in Calgary hosted the Wolff Pack Run with a purse of over $20,000 and a field of 35 which brings us to 2009. This year's Wolff Pack Run has Jaron Wolff Ltd. putting $20,000.00 into the purse and Bridge County Raceway adding another $20,000 totalling up to the largest Modified purse in the history of the Wolff Pack Run; an excess of $40,000 and an anticipated field of 50 Modifieds! The 2009 Wolff Pack Run promises to be this years biggest and best event for Modified racers and fans alike!

RANGER WINS A&W 300 - SUNVALLEY SPEEDWAY
"First Win On Oval For 22-Year-Old"
For Immediate Release - NASCAR Media

VERNON, B.C. - In the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, Andrew Ranger held off Scott Steckly on a green-white-checkered finish to win the A&W Cruisin' The Dub 300 on Saturday night at SunValley Speedway.

Ranger displayed a dominant car at times, opening up a lead of nearly 10 seconds at one point. However, with the late restart, he beat Steckly to the line by .561 seconds.

After winning four races on road courses in his series career, the 22-year-old Ranger, out of Roxton Pond, Que., won for the first time on an oval track after flirting with it several times over the past two seasons. The 2007 series champion now has five wins and is just one behind Steckly on the all-time win list. It was Ranger's second win of the 2009 season after winning at Mosport International Raceway in June.

Ron Beauchamp Jr. finished third, a lap down, as only Ranger and Steckly finished on the lead lap and DJ Kennington and Kerry Micks finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 was Anthony Simone, John Gaunt, Jason Hathaway, Don Thomson Jr. and Dave Whitlock. The race was slowed by caution just three times for 28 laps. Earlier in the day, Beauchamp won his first series career pole.

Unofficially in the championship point standings, Ranger holds a 42-point lead on Kennington and has a 45-point lead on Beauchamp.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented Mobil 1 heads to Edmonton next Saturday, July 25, for the Canadian Tire 100 which is part of the Rexall Edmonton Indy weekend on the 1.973-mile temporary road course at Edmonton's City Centre Airport. View complete standings.

The first Daffodil Cup was run in 1961, with Edmonton's Eldon Rasmussen the winner and is one of the most prestigious races held at Western Speedway. The local WilRoc Sprint Car Series will run for the prestigious 49th Daffodil Cup in a two-day show on August 14 and 15 and will be joined by the high-powered NSRA cars based out of Washington State. FOR CONSIDERATION AND COMMENTS FROM ALL SPORTSMAN DRIVERS

Submitted by: Johnny Aantjes, Katana Sportsman Tour

We are very close to having one set of rules that encompasses all of the sportsman cars in BC. This has been a long process that started, in my opinion, with the Sportsman Invitational race at Penticton Speedway in 1999. There have been many changes and numerous people involved that have positioned the Sportsman class at its current level. There are more sportsman cars in BC than ever before and the same rules apply from the island to the interior and the north. Some minor weight percentages, a lower control arm rule and tires are separating the island, lower mainland and southern interior cars from Vernon and the northern cars. When looking at the cost of racing the Katana series we realized some of the expenses had to be lowered - travel, tires end engine costs were the three main areas we thought should be addressed. Travel is difficult, especially with the island costs, and we have not been able to reduce these costs without reducing the number of races. We introduced the crate engines and I think the success of that is yet to be determined. Changing the tires from the Goodyear A300 to the American Racers 10" slick was one of the most difficult battles we have had to date as far as the sportsman rules are concerned. Some of the opposition came from racers that did not want to change, and some came from the different groups that sell the Goodyear tires. Drivers and owners that opposed the change have now had a chance to run on the American Racer for the last two seasons. They consistently tell me the American 10" slick is a better tire. It handles better, it lasts longer and it even looks better. Jason Beaulieu won the Vernon race with tires that had around 400 laps on them when he was finished - and the tire was just as fast at the end of the race as once they were scuffed. Teams that can't afford to purchase new tires each race day are able to compete with used tires and save money. The Katana drivers that were the most vocal against changing to the American Race tire are now convinced of the quality, longevity and reason for the change. Many of the negative accusations that the 10" slick would break spindles, eat up the brakes or otherwise hurt the sportsman cars have proven to be inaccurate. The Katana drivers, with experience on both types of tires, have told me they choose the American racer 10"slick hands down over the Goodyear A300. A tire rule that forces drivers to run on used tires is a good idea - as long as the used tire does not create an ill handling car. It does not make sense to save $600.00 on tires just to spend it on new body panels.

There are many conflicting ideas about the direction of our sport and what can be done to make it better, there is no right or wrong, only ideas in the hopes of making the sport better and stronger. I made more money selling the Goodyear tires than I do having the American Racers as our spec tire. Ted Zerbin has told me "the tire is too good, it lasts too long!" Our goal has to be keeping the costs down, having a competitive field of racers and finding more ways to get money back to the teams. If we put our personal agendas aside and focus on saving the drivers' money - the American Racer 10" slick will be the tire of choice for the sportsman class in BC.

We look forward to receiving your comments and ideas on this important subject by posting them on the Canada West Racing independent "Forum" page. Click on the General Board and then the heading "COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS RE SPORTSMAN NEWS ITEM".

FITZPATRICK WINS IN MONTREAL
"Fourth Series Career Win For 21-Year-Old"
By Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
August 30, 2009
MONTREAL - JR Fitzpatrick showed up to win-no question about it. He won the NAPA Autopro 100 in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 action from Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in dominating fashion. The 21-year-old out of Cambridge, Ont., took control of the race when he slipped inside of Kerry Micks in the hairpin turn on the ninth lap of the race. From there, he went on to build a lead of over five seconds in his Schick-sponsored Chevrolet before the caution flag waved on Lap 22 to set up an attempt at a green-white-checkered finish.
On the restart, the front of the field got stacked up as they entered Turn 3. As a result, the car of Scott Steckly ended up on its roof after making contact with Don Thomson Jr. Once the dust cleared, the cars were brought down pit road and the red flag was displayed which ended the event. The race was scheduled for 23 laps or 75 minutes leaving just the one opportunity to finish the race under green. It was Fitzpatrick's first win of the season and the fourth in his series career. He last won on June 15, 2007 at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont.

Points leader Andrew Ranger was able to clear the incident in Turn 3 and finish second. DJ Kennington, who held down second place in the closing laps, was not as fortunate. He got turned around in the fray and blended back into the field in the fourth position which is where NASCAR officials determined his finishing position to be. After winning the first three road-course events of the year, Ranger was foiled in his bid to win all four road-course races on the 2009 slate. A season ago in this event, Fitzpatrick led much of the race before a late-race bobble allowed Ranger to take the win. Kerry Micks led the first eight laps of the race and closed out the race in third place. Mark Dilley finished fifth equaling his season-high finish. Ron Beauchamp Jr., Pierre Bourque, Jeff Lapcevich, Daryl Harr and Jarrad Whissell rounded out the top 10.

The race was slowed three times due to caution for a total of six laps. The race lead changed just one time between two drivers. In the point standings, Ranger expanded his lead on Kennington by 10 points and now has a 134-point lead heading into the final three race of the season. Beauchamp and Steckly, in third and fourth, respectively, are right on Kennington's heels. In qualifying on Saturday, Alex Tagliani picked up his second straight series pole award after winning the pole two weeks ago at Quebec's Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. In today's race, Tagliani was knocked out of the race after just 11 laps due to mechanical problems.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 takes a weekend off before heading to Barrie Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 12 for the Torbram Electric 300 presented by The Source.

TWO FOR TAGLIANI
"Second Straight Pole For Quebecer"

By Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
August 29, 2009

MONTREAL - For the second straight NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 event, Alex Tagliani will start on the pole. The native of Lachenaie, Que., logged the fastest time in qualifying for the NAPA Autopro 100 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Tagliani navigated the 14-turn, 2.73-mile temporary street course in 106.801 seconds for an average lap speed of 91.347 mph for his second career series pole. He also was the polesitter two weeks ago at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres for the GP3R 100.

The session was run under dry conditions after the morning practice session saw a wet track with wet tires mounted on the cars. The times during practice were well off the pace from previous events at the track, but qualifying times were right in line with prior results. Starting alongside Tagliani on the front row will be Kerry Micks, who posted a time of 107.147 seconds (91.052 mph). The second row consists of the only two series champions. Current point standings leader and 2007 series title winner Andrew Ranger timed in at 107.358 seconds (90.874 mph). Defending series champion Scott Steckly logged the fourth-fastest time at 107.389 seconds (90.847 mph). Rounding out the top-five qualifiers was JR Fitzpatrick with a time of 107.667 seconds (90.613 mph).

The NAPA Autopro 100 is scheduled to take the green flag at 11:45 a.m. ET. RDS will provide live coverage of the race beginning at 11:30 a.m.

August 26, 2009

MONTREAL, Que. - Four-game road series sweeps are a coup for pennant-winning baseball teams, but they are almost unheard of in racing circles-even for championship drivers like Andrew Ranger. With victories already in hand at Mosport International Raceway, Rexall Speedway and Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, Ranger (No. 27 Walmart/Tide Ford), in Montreal, aims to pull off the unlikeliest of feats-a win in each of the four road-course events on the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 schedule. ARCA LATE MODEL RACE SUNVALLEY - SATURDAY, AUGUST 8
The familiar #39 yellow Chevy Impala driven by Pete Harding of Surrey, B.C. and sponsored by LP Autobody of Yakima, WA. and Yale Forklifts of Surrey, B.C., will attempt to continue his sweet season that parallels NASCAR superstar Mark Martin's '09 season as both of these veteran drivers continue to prove they still have a lot of gas left in their tank. Pete will be moving into unchartered territory this Saturday when he attempts to win four in a row at SunValley Speedway in Vernon. He will face stiff competition from the ARCA regulars as well as the former Katana Sportsman Champion Korbin Thomas. But Pete has no further to look than over the kitchen table at one of the most determined drivers to stop the streak, that being, the driver of the #29 Chevy Impala, his son, Shane Harding. This former Evergreen NASCAR Champion will be taking some time out from his successful motorsport business, Harding Motorsports Supply, to try to seal the deal. By all indications, this late model race will be the "coolest" race of the summer.

JORGENSEN WINS KATANA CHAMPIONSHIP - SEPT. 26
#57 Ken Jorgensen driving the Abney Roofing Chevy capped off his third year of competing in the Katana Boat Sportsman Series by clinching the 2009 championship. Ken's championship car is generally of in-house design and powered by the economical 604 crate engine.

Other news from the final race at Penticton Speedway found Vancouver Island #29 Brent Morris in the winners' circle. It will be a great off-season for the Morris family having secured numerous wins throughout '09. Second place went to #81 Darryl Midgley, the 2009 N.P.P. dirt late model series champion driving a Dodge Charger. Rumour has it that his car is powered by a Dodge crate engine. Third place was claimed by #52 Geoff Morris. The tradition continues...top three finishers are all Vancouver Island competitors. Congratulations!

Canada West Racing would like to thank all drivers, pit crew, support personnel and racetracks for making it a fun season here at CWR.

Almost every series produced some type of excitement and hard hits. Ronnie Keifert used a last lap pass to win the Bomber Trophy Dash. RANGER CLOSES THE DEAL AT KAWARTHA
'Kennington Snags Win In Rain-Shortened Event'
By Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
September 27, 2009
FRASERVILLE, Ont. - Dry weather prevailed long enough on Sunday afternoon at Kawartha Speedway for Andrew Ranger to close out the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season by winning the points championship and DJ Kennington to win the Z-Line Designs 250 presented by the Dodge Dealers of Ontario and Coca-Cola. Ranger, who was one point shy of the title coming into the race, clinched the championship when the 27-car field took the green flag. It is the Roxton Pond, Que., native¹s second series crown in three seasons having won it in the series' inaugural season of 2007.

The race, already postponed from Saturday evening, was halted after 204 laps due to a heavy rain shower. Kennington was able to wrestle the lead away from Kerry Micks on Lap 183 before the final caution flag of the day waved at Lap 193 when Joey Hanssen and John Gaunt got tangled up in Turn 1. The rain began to fall at the 200-lap mark at which point NASCAR officials decided to end the race as more showers were on the way.

Micks posted his second runner-up finish of the season and was followed by Don Thomson Jr. in third. Scott Steckly, the 2008 series champion, finished fourth with Ron Beauchamp Jr. coming home in fifth. Jason Hathaway, Anthony Simone, Dave Whitlock, Ranger and Kent Nuhn rounded out the top-10 finishers. The race lead exchanged 14 times among six drivers and was slowed due to caution nine times for a total of 68 laps. Joey Hanssen was able to beat out Dexter Stacey in their year-long battle for top rookie honors in the series.

In the final point standings, Ranger finished 167 points ahead of both Kennington and Beauchamp, who both ended with the same point total, but Kennington gets the nod for second place due to his two wins on the season. Steckly wrapped up the season in fourth while Micks finished fifth. As a touring series champion, Ranger earned a protected starting position in the prestigious NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown to be held on January 29-30 at California's Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. The seventh running of the event brings together the top racers from across North America for the "Daytona 500 of short-track racing".

Next up for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series team is the NASCAR Touring Series Gala in Concord, N.C. on Saturday, November 14 at which Ranger and the rest of the touring series champions will be honored.

THOMSON TAKES BARRIE
"Collects First Win In 2009"
By Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
September 12, 2009
BARRIE, Ont. - In typical Barrie Speedway fashion, Don Thomson Jr. won the Torbram Electric 300 presented by The Source in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 action on Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd.

Racing in Barrie is the epitome of short-track competition, but it suits the veteran Thomson just fine. He led a race-high 106 laps on the cozy .333-mile tri-oval and took his Home Hardware Chevrolet to Victory Lane for the first time this season as he beat Mark Dilley to the line by .180 seconds. It was Thomson's fifth series career win and his first since last September.

Scott Steckly led a fair portion of the final third of the race, but with just 18 laps remaining, Simone and Beauchamp made contact in Turn 2 and blocked in Steckly causing him to lose the race lead to Thomson before eventually finishing third. Brad Graham finished a season-best fourth followed by Jason Hathaway in fifth. Kerry Micks, John Gaunt, Joey Hanssen, Andrew Ranger and DJ Kennington rounded out the top 10.

There were 16 lead changes involving eight drivers. The race was slowed eight times due to caution for a total of 83 laps. At Lap 225, there was one red flag that lasted four minutes and 14 seconds while track workers cleaned up the track. In the championship point standings, Ranger extended his lead over Kennington to 138 points heading into the final two races of the season.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 heads east for next week's Komatsu 300 at Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish, N.S.

WHISLER AND SWATZINA MAKE LAST LAPS PASSES TO WIN SKAGIT
For Immediate Release

Alger, WA - Thursday night of World of Outlaws weekend at Skagit Speedway saw two stock car classes in attendance put on two fantastic main event finishes. The Northwest I-5 Dirt Car Late Models ran a 30 lap main event, with cars going door to door almost the whole event. Jeremy Shank of Salem, OR set the pace early, taking his car to the top side on the initial start. As he entered traffic, veteran Greg Walters of Banks, OR ran him down and made a daring pass in traffic, splitting the difference between to lapped cars entering turn one on lap fifteen. The pass stuck and Walters motored away till a yellow flag bunched the field up on lap 29. Per Dirt Car rules, the green and white flag flew on the restart, and Jim Whisler of Otis, OR found some tacky left in the high groove and powered around Walters for the last lap pass coming to the checkered flags. Walters hung on for second with Shank taking third. John Duty of Happy Valley, OR was quick time. Heat race wins went to Shank, Joey Tanner of Portland, OR and Duty. Whisler won the dash.

Cory Swatzina made a big time move coming to the checkered flag on lap 20 to take home another win in the Outlaw Hornet division. After stalking Don Ward, who inherited the lead on lap 16 when Ken Higby blew a head gasket, Swatzina found a lane around the top of the track, pulling even with Ward down the back straightaway then blowing by him at the line to take the win. It was another top three finish for Ward in his sophomore season, as he grabbed another runner up. Rick Young raced his way to third. Heat race wins went to Higby and Tyler Ketchum.

ESSARY, CRAWFORD VICTORIOUS; ATON'S CHAMPIONSHIP
Submitted by: Kaleb Hart, Triple X Race Co.
October 24, 2009:
After taking second at last weekend's USAC/CRA event, Jimmy Crawford took things to the next level by winning the $5,000 A Feature at Ventura Raceway in California. Holding off the likes of Jesse Hockett and Mike Spencer, Crawford led three separate times en route to the victory.

October 24, 2009:
Rafe Essary broke winless drought by winning the final Oil Capital Racing Series main of the year, topping the OCRS field at Enid Speedway Park in Enid, OK. The 48 year old Essary led all 25 laps of the A Feature, navigating the slick black track with ease.

October 17 and 18, 2009:
Billy Aton was a man on a mission this past weekend. Aton started things off with the main event win at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday night, sealing up the season championship in the process. The next night, Aton traveled to Marysville Raceway Park where he pulled off a clean sweep, winning his first heat from the front row, his second heat from dead last, then leading all 30 laps of the $2,000 to win feature. Aton now boasts 11 Main wins on the year, almost as many heat race triumphs, and is in line to lock up his second season championship next weekend at Antioch Speedway.

ACT TO RETURN TO QUEBEC IN 2010

Courtesy of ACT

The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that they are planning a ten (10) race program for their ACT Late Model division located in Canada for the 2010 race season. This will be one additional event from the recently concluded 2009 schedule on the Série ACT Castrol. There will also be special events available to the ACT Castrol competitors such as the SHOWDOWN at Chaudiere, the Oxford 250, an anticipated return to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH for those who qualify, as well as ACT events throughout New England, including the Spring Green and Fall Foliage 300 at the new Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY.

This will be the fourth season of ACT Late Model racing throughout Quebec, which also includes a stop in Ottawa as a part of the proposed 10-race schedule.

"We have sent proposals this week to all our track promoters. We hope to have a confirmed schedule before the month of October is completed", said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour. "We still have two more events to be run this season on the US Tour schedule (Thunder Road's rain-postponed Milk Bowl this Sunday and the final event at Oxford Plains Speedway on Sunday, October 11), but with all the rumors that have been floating around Quebec, we wanted to let our competitors know that we will continue to organize and sanction race events on the Série ACT Castrol in 2010", continued Curley.

Plans call for an additional event in 2010 at the Autodrome Ste. Felicien in the Lac St. Jean region. The track is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2010, and negotiations are underway between ACT and promoter Louise Boulanger to have the Castrol Série help them celebrate. ACT last raced at Ste. Felicien in 2008.

It was also announced today by ACT headquarters that the annual Série ACT Castrol Banquet of Champions will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 in Drummondville, QC. ACT will distribute over $30,000 in point fund and prize money to the ACT Castrol competitors. Donald Theetge of Boischatel, QC will be crowned the ACT Castrol Série Champion.

DONAHUE TAKES 47TH ANNUAL CHITTENDEN MILK BOWL

Courtesy of ACT

Graniteville's John Donahue won the 47th Annual Chittenden Milk Bowl at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Sunday, October 4. Donahue's fifth place finish in the third segment was enough to edge out Brent Dragon by just four points. Dragon went into the third segment as the overall leader after winning the first segment and placing 10th in the second segment. His tenth place finish in the third segment gave him an overall score of 21 points for the three segment event.

Donahue took the green in the final segment trailing Dragon by just one point. The two fought hard through traffic to get to the front but Donahue got into the open air quicker and made it up to fifth and secured the win with a combined score of 17.

Eric Williams finished third overall with 26 points, followed by Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. (28), Brian Hoar (29), Dave Pembroke (31), Jamie Fisher (31), Nick Sweet (31), Joey Laquerre (34), and Chip Grenier (37) rounded out the top ten.

CRUM LEADS YOUTHFUL CHARGE IN BAILEY'S 300
Youth reigned supreme Sunday afternoon at one of the oldest NASCAR venues in the nation.

The top three finishers in the Bailey's 300 Late Model Stock race at Martinsville Speedway Sunday were each 18 years old, but they drove much older than their birth dates would suggest.

Jake Crum of Statesville, NC, became the youngest winner of the Bailey's 300 when he beat fellow 18-year-older Brandon McReynolds to the start-finish line by .223 seconds. Brennan Poole, also 18, finished third, less than a half-second behind the winner. Read More...

TRAVIS RUTZ UPDATE
"Not a lot of change again today everything stayed pretty much the same. Trav had a tough night last night but did bounce back. Tina was our daytime nurse today and just like Julie she is just amazing. Today we received a stack of cards and letters and I don¹t want to single anyone out but you people are so thoughtful and some of the cards and drawings made us all cry like babies. I know I keep saying this but I cant tell you what it means to Lisa and his mom and me. Later tonight Trav will have a CT scan and hopefully we will have more answers by morning. I have to give Frenchy a shout out since Boner left he is our personal driver he spent the first three days lost all the time. We actually lost the car in the hospital parking lot the other day. Thank god for GPS we went to do laundry today and found it in one shot. Just a note you meet some very interesting people while doing laundry. I will write again tomorrow so please check back"...Doug and Family

WADE AND POLLARD-GRANT REPEAT CHAMPIONS
Langford B.C., October 3, 2009
Submitted by: Ken Keating

#07 Wade Bland

#95 Ryan Wade
Ryan Wade and Lois Pollard-Grant successfully defended their Championships in the V.I. Rental Stock Car Series and the L.P. Gear I.M.S. 4 Mini Stocks respectively running at Victoria's Western Speedway. Along with the Stock Cars and Mini Stocks the program also included the final appearance for the Late Model Series. All classes took part in Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and of course the Main events.

Shawn Connaroe and Shawn Constantine led the field to the green flag for forty laps of racing in the L.P. Gear I.M.S. 4 Mini Stcok Series. It only took a lap before the first caution came out for a couple of spinning cars in turn one. At the time there were several drivers all looking for the lead and it was pure luck and some evasive action on the part of other drivers that avoided a major pileup running in such a tight pack. By lap eight, Gilles Parenteau had the lead followed by Mike Derepentigny and Nick Hastie. Hastie and Derepentigny ran bumper to bumper and side by side for several laps fighting for the second spot. Race fans demanded more racing. Racers requested bigger purses. The Bullring, Las Vegas Motor Speedway's NASCAR-sanctioned 3/8-mile asphalt oval, will pay $7,777.77 to the winner of the 200-lap Super Late Model feature on November 7. "The Open Comp is one of the most prestigious events in the Southwestern United States and we wanted to build on its legend for the 2009 event," said Chris Blair, LVMS' vice president of racing operations.  "The fans and drivers alike have been asking for more and that's what we're giving them."

The Super Late Model feature has been expanded from 150 laps to 200 laps with a pit break scheduled at lap 100.  The event winner will receive $7,777.77 and the race will pay $300 to start.

The 75-lap SuperClean Modified Series feature pays $200 to start and $2,500 to win.

The INEX Legends Cars 40 lap feature pays $2,000 to win and $150 to start.

"It's going to be a tremendous week of racing here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway," Blair explained. "We've already received entries from Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, British Columbia and Alberta."

ASA NORTHWEST LATE MODEL TOUR
THE 2010 RACE SEASON SCHEDULE

Marysville, WA (December 21, 2009): Officials of the iRacing.com American Speed Association Northwest Late Model Tour announced a tentative 2010 race season schedule. The Super Late Model traveling series will visit three Northwest States and British Columbia, Canada. The twelve race season starts on March 27 and concludes September 18.

Evergreen Speedway, Monroe, WA hosts the opener and championship with one other visit scheduled on July 24 as part of the Washington 500. The track that has held the second most races during the 26 years is Yakima Speedway in Yakima, WA. Two major summer holidays will be filled with 2 day events at Yakima Speedway, Memorial Day Weekend May 29 & 30 and again on Labor Day Weekend September 4 & 5.

The series makes its first trip, since the dual series merger, to South Sound Speedway in Rochester, WA on May 1. Also the series makes its debut in Canada at the Sun Valley Speedway in Vernon, B.C. on May 15.

Stalwarts of the series include Stateline Speedway in Post Falls, ID on June 12 and Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval in E. Wenatchee, WA on August 14.

The series returns to the fast road course at Pacific Raceway in Kent, WA on June 26. Spokane County Raceway in Spokane, WA will host its second ever ASA NWLMT race on August 28.

The series returns to southern Oregon on a new date July 3 at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR. The night will include a giant fireworks display.

MONTANA RACEWAY PARK HOSTING NASCAR IN 2010
For Immediate Release: NASCAR Media Relations
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series West schedule, highlighted by two visits to Phoenix International Raceway - including the championship season finale -- was announced today by NASCAR.

The 12-race schedule, with stops at 10 venues in seven states, also features a first-time visit by the series to the high-banked oval of Montana Raceway Park in Kalispell, Mont., on Aug. 7.
The season finale on Nov. 11 at Phoenix will be part of the big NASCAR week at PIR that includes the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The NASCAR Camping World Series West makes its first visit of the year to Phoenix on April 8, for a companion event also with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

"The NASCAR Camping World Series West continues to visit key markets and top race tracks throughout the western United States," said George Silbermann, NASCAR Managing Director of Racing Operations. "The 2010 calendar should make for another exciting season of tough competition, culminated by crowning our series champion at Phoenix in November."

The schedule will once again include the annual combination race between the NASCAR Camping World Series East and West at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on May, 23. Past winners of the prestigious event include Kyle Busch in 2009; Brian Ickler in 2008; and Joey Logano in 2007. The event has also attracted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standouts Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne.

Also in 2010, the NASCAR Camping World Series West will make its annual visit to Infineon Raceway on June 19 during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend at the 1.99-mile road course in Sonoma, Calif.

Other 2010 highlights include:

The NASCAR Camping World Series West will kick off its 57th season on March 27 with the first of two visits to All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. The historic fairgrounds track will host a second event on Oct. 16.

The NASCAR Camping World Series West will visit Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.) on July 3 for what has become a big Fourth of July holiday attraction for Southern California race fans.

Two other popular short-track events on the 2010 schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Series West include a visit to Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore., on June 5 and a trip to Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, Colo., on Aug. 14.

In addition to the race at Sonoma, the schedule includes two other road course events. A visit to Portland (Ore.) International Raceway is slated for July 18. The series will travel to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah Sept. 12 for an event that will be part of a big weekend of racing for the Grand-Am Road Racing series.

2009 KATANA POINT STANDINGS UPDATE

Revised 2009 Katana point standings now available on the Katana website.
Posted: 12/06/09

Kyle Busch thrives in the limelight whether it's cheers or boos and on Sunday night drews mostly cheers and he won the 42nd annual Snowball Derby in front of a sellout crowd at Five Flags Speedway.

The current NASCAR Sprint Cup star dominated this season, winning the Nationwide and Truck series. He had a disappointing Sprint Cup season, winning just four races and finishing out of the Cup Chase. That allowed him to come to Pensacola for the Snowball Derby and he led three times for 99 laps, including the final 25.

"Winning the Snowball Derby means so much to me," he said in Victory Lane. "What a race car I had. I was nervous the last 10 laps." Busch pulled away after passing 2005 Snowball Derby winner Eddie Mercer of Pensacola on Lap 276. Mercer took second, while 2004 winner Steven Wallace was third. Bobby Gill was fourth and John Bolen fifth.
Polesitter Johanna Long finished 18th, two laps down, while Augie Grill's bid to become the first driver to win consecutive Snowballs ended with a wreck and he finished 31st. Busch started third and edged Long to take the lead on the opening lap. Grill, starting in fourth, passed Busch for the lead on Lap 29. On Lap 59, two cars in front of Grill spun and Grill ran into the back of one of them, but didn't do much damage.

He gave up the lead on Lap 96 when he came into the pits for fresh tires. Casey Smith, who had pitted earlier, took the point for 67 laps. Grill, however, restarted in 26th and was hit by Justin Drawdy as he was trying to work his way to the front. The damage slowed him down considerably and he parked the car shortly after that.

Mercer took over the lead on Lap 163 when Smith and other leaders went into the pits for fresh tires. Eighteen laps later, Mercer became the all-time Snowball Derby lap later, passing Bobby Gill, who has 694. Mercer now has led 744 laps.

The frustration continued for Smith, who began to back up shortly after pitting for fresh tires. His pit crew put the right-side tires on the left side and he later suffered damage to his car.

Busch passed Mercer for the lead on Lap 208. Mercer, who later pitted, worked his way back to the front and regained the lead on Lap 246 when Busch and the other leaders pitted for their final set of tires. Mercer held it through three more cautions but Busch cleared some lap cars and went low in Turn 1 to take the lead for good on Lap 276.

There were 14 cautions in the race for 108 laps.
