Western Speedway hosted a full program of racing with the Demo Classes, L.P. Gear I.M.S. 4 Mini Stocks, and a demonstration with the Hornet Cars as they
are set to resume racing on Wednesday, June 24th. The popular Reynolds School Marching Band was introduced by band instructor Dave Flello as they marched
onto the Speedway to play our National Anthem.
Young Kail Beck continued his winning streak by notching another clean sweep in the Mini Van Series. He accomplished that same feat on May 23rd. On this
night he got crowded a bit as he was set to take the lead however the young man kept control and used superior speed to get by the leader going between
the tires and come out with the lead and went on for the win in the Feature race.
Fourteen L.P. Gear I.M.S. 4 Mini Stocks took the green flag for twenty-five laps of racing led by Gilles Parenteau and Sean Constantine sharing the front
row. Parenteau gained the early advantage and led the first ten laps. Lois Pollard-Grant passed Constantine on the fourth lap while Mitch Egner moved into
third. Mike Derepetigny moved from his ninth starting position and quickly got into the lead pack taking over second spot on lap seven. On lap eleven Mike
took the lead away from Parenteau and behind him Ryan Medynski moved up as did Glen Percival. This set up a good battle that included these two plus
Pollard-Grant, Parenteau, and Egner all in a tight bunch. Somwhere we lost Derepetigny and Medynski got a black flag leaving Egner in the lead followed
by Percival and Pollard-Grant as they crossed the finish line in that order.
J.J. Taylor survived a wild Figure 8 Feature event as he, Sean Hitchings and Cody Young battled throughout this race. J.J. got taken out but on the last
lap regained the lead position with a tough hit of his own to grab the win. This race also featured heavy hitting throughout.
Paul Scotthorne had the pole for the start of the Demo Truck Feature event and he had the wildest ride of the night. Going into turn three, on the very
first lap, he rolled two and a half times landing on his roof between three and four. The field was brought to a stop as the ambulance crew and track
officials raced to make sure the driver was ok. Scotthorne came out of the wreck with just a little dust in the eyes but his night was finished. Richard
Milne led most of the remainder, after a restart, but as the checkered flag was in the air, he, Keith Hanson, and Kevin Knight were involved in a heavy,
heavy wreck with lots of damage done to the #68 truck and Knight's machine. Unofficially, Hanson was declared the winner but under review as it was still
unclear who actually crossed the line first between Hanson and Milne. None of the drivers were hurt in this checkered flag wreck and Hanson said: "This
is what it is all about" in Demo Truck racing.
Cody Young led the field to the green flag in the Demo Car Feature event with Dakota Hanson up front as well. Smokin Joe Liberatore waisted little time
in jumping into the second spot after the first lap. He chased Young for four laps and then used his superior handling car to get the lead on lap five.
As some of the faster cars in the back field were fighting for positions Joe kept his car up front and out of trouble taking a very popular win followed
by Young and Robin Trotter coming in third.
We've come to expect good, hard, and clean racing with the Bombers so far in 2009. Tonight was a little different as running flag to flag without incident
fell by the wayside. Daniel David and Andrew Wilson shared the front row as the field took the green flag for twenty laps of racing. Over the last couple
of events, Chris Broughton, Brian Wakelin, and Ronnie Kiefert staged some incredible racing coming from the back to the front in a hurry. All three of
these drivers again found themselves deep in the pack again, but on this night, Mike Noyes made his 2009 debut just a few spots ahead in the starting grid.
Ron Begg actually grabbed the lead for two laps until he suffered a stop and go handing the lead to Ray Wilkinson. Noyes charged through the field and
took the second spot after just three laps following Wilkinson while Broughton and Wakelin was also charging toward the front sometimes three wide through
the corners.
Noyes wrestled the lead from Wilkinson on lap eight as Broughton moved to his rear bumper one lap later. Wakelin was now in the hunt taking the third spot on
lap twelve. Over the remaining eight laps, Broughton tried to gain the lead from Noyes as Wakelin tried to get the second spot from Broughton. Each driver
took turns in trying the pass inside and outside but in the end Noyes won out taking his first win in 09 with Broughton holding off Wakelin who finished third
in just another very entertaining Bomber Feature.
Next weekend is the return of the WilRoc Lites, the Old Time Racing Association, and the exciting WilRoc Sprint Car Series running for the prestigious
Strawberry Cup.
