WHITE USES NAPA 100 TO BREAK OUT OF SLUMP Submitted by Jason White
Montreal Q.C. - The 2010 Nascar Canadian Tire season has not been a good one for Jason White and his A&W racing team, plagued with mechanical
issues and just plain bad luck. Frustration would be an understatement for the team, but the pure determination of the entire crew would put their
spirits back in high gear in the NAPA 100.
The 10th stop on the gruelling summer tour was held at the legendary "Circuit Gilles Villeneuve," 34 cars took to the track and put on a show
for the Quebec fans that they will not soon forget.
Jason would start 27th for Sundays race, which was a bit of a disappointment for him, but
not for his team. " In my qualifying session we only got a couple of laps to get up to speed," said the British Columbia based driver. " A
caution came out when Brisbois spun in turn four and I never really got a good lap in." But with White's disappointment, the crew was behind him
all the way. " I Knew Jason could drive through a good portion of the field, so i wasn't too worried about starting near the back," stated crew
chief Mike Ernst. " We know he races better than he practices and qualifies, so the crew just tried to keep the spirits up and stayed positive."
When the green flag dropped on a very determined field of racers, the 30 degree temperature outside the cars was no comparison to the battles
that heated up on the track. The legendary "Circuit Gilles Villeneuve" road course is one of the most demanding tracks in the world, for both
drivers and equipment. The A&W Impala wasted no time advancing into the top 20, and even with a drive through penalty on lap 12, Jason piloted
his A&W machine into the top 15. "The car really came to me as I dialled in more rear brake, so it got better as the race went on" said White.
With the race closing in on the checkered flag, a lot of drivers patience went out the window and carnage was happening all around the 2.7 mile circuit.
"I knew the finish was going to be aggressive, so I tried to stay focused on being smooth" White continued. But that theory went out the window when a
caution came out with 4 to go and forced a green white checkered finish. " It was every man for himself," mused White "My focus went from smooth, to
survive and gain as many positions as possible, at all costs."
As the checkered flag flew on the final road race of the year, Jason had aggressively charged his way to 11th spot and posted the teams best finish
of the season. "It felt like I won the race," White said with a smile. " We really have had a tough season so this was a big weekend for our confidence,
now we just need keep the ball rolling for the last three oval races of the year."
The next stop on the Nascar Canadian Tire series is in 2 weeks at the 1/3 mile Barrie Speedway. The A&W racing team is looking forward to advancing
their points position and trying to crack the top ten before the season finale at Kawartha Downs in Peterborugh Ontario.
A&W Food Services Of Canada, is Canada's original hamburger quick service restaurant chain, and today is one of its fastest growing.
On your way to the next NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES race, be sure to "CRUISE" into an A&W near you!! See you at the Races!!

VAN DYKE AND STEEN WIN FEATURES
Langford, B.C., August 28, 2010 Submitted by Ken Keating
Four thousand plus fans packed Western Speedway last night to watch Demo Cars, Demo Trucks, Figure 8s, and the Bombers racing in Trophy Dashes, Heat
races, and Feature events.
Also on this card was the highly popular ground shaking Big Rigs with hometown boy Glen Creed, in his Louisville Ford, taking
on the Peter Van Dyke owned Peterbuilt truck called "Pinkfoot" as well as the Berdahls. A Total Destruction event took place as well as Gary Williams on
hand to jump a hearse as the finale to another action packed night. Between Heat races and Main events, three trucks entered the always popular smoke show
event.
Terrell Schmidt was first up and got the tires smoking with a lot of donuts and streaking down the frontstretch leaving a trail of smoke behind him.
Peter Van Dyk done the same thing standing on the accelerator of the big Peterbuilt truck and also laying down some pretty big clouds. Glen Creed, not to be
outdone, brought his own gravel truck to the line and quickly got the smoke going showing he can do the donuts while smoking the tires as well. Fans gave the
win to the local hero but did appreciate all of the contestants even though air quality was somewhat diminished for a short period.
Fifteen Figure 8s lined up to take the green flag for twenty laps of racing led by Dakota Hanson and Richard Carey. Carey jumped to the lead with the
drop of the flag and led the first six laps with a lot of jostling for position behind him including J.J. Taylor, Brandon Young, and Dan Dougan. Young
moved to the second spot on lap six with several drivers still in tough behind him. On lap twelve the yellow came out as several cars were disabled and
the track resembled a junk yard from all the hard hits. Concern for some drivers brought out the red flag as officials and medics checked out these drivers
particularly Cam Wilkinson as he took a couple of real hard blows and was stopped in a vunerable place along with Dougan's car. After a few moments for
clearing cars and checking drivers, Young led the field back to green and held on for the win followed by Alex Carry and Carl Jones.
As the season is getting shorter, things are beginning to heat up in the Bomber Series with several fast cars making their way from the back to the front
in search of Championship points. Aaron Cameron and Bredan Moore led a field of sixteen cars to the flag in the Feature event with Moore grabbing the early
lead followed by Jamie Morgan and Chris Broughton. Broughton took the second spot on lap five only to lose that position to Chris Stone four laps later.
On lap ten, the yellow came out as one of the drivers spun out and on the restart, Moore took the lead again. On lap twelve Stone grabbed the lead with Rob
Gaudreault taking the second spot with Brandon Steen moving up to third three laps later. Over these few laps, Gaudreault, Steen, Giles Cyr, and Jarraod
Sagmoen ran in a tight bunch often side by side through the corners leaving little room to make passes. Up front, Stone stretched his lead by a considerable
margin as the rest of the pack was trying to get untangled behind him. Gaudreault, once in the clear, started to reel in the frontrunner as Broughton and
Cyr were still in tough fighting for position. Young Steen also was in tough as he and Gaudreault rubbed paint several times but the youngster did not give
an inch either as he was trying to get to the front. On lap twenty, Gaudreault passed Stone for the lead but had Steen right on the bumper passing Stone
one lap later. On lap twenty-two, Steen took over the lead as Gaudreault spun around in front of him and narrowly missed a collision. Rob was able to get
going in the right direction and watched as Steen took the checquerd flag with Stone in second just ahead of him. Jarrod Sagmoen and Giles Cyr rounded out
the top five.
Kirk Peacey grabbed the lead in a combined Demo Car and Demo Truck Feature event. Cars were to hit cars and trucks to hit trucks but that only lasts for a
couple of laps. Peacey stayed out of trouble, for the most part, while Craig Holfeld, Brad Smith, and Aasen Baker were fighting for positions. Aasen Baker
laid a hit on Heath Cooper going into turn one, with Cooper going over, landing on the wheels, and then carried on racing. When the dust settled, Peacey got
the win followed by Aason and Kenny Baker.
Cory Mckmeekin led ten trucks for the drop of the green flag and twenty-five laps of racing for the Big Rigs. Before the first lap was complete, Colin
Fraser took the lead and was quickly followed by Peter Van Dyke and Ron Singer Jr. On lap twelve, Van Dyke, from Airdrie Alberta, took over the lead with
Darren Berdahl taking the second spot two laps later. Glen Creed made his move to the thrid spot on lap fifteen as both he and Berdahl tried to reel in
the leader. Several times it looked like Van Dyke was about to spin out with Berdahl trying to get the inside groove but the veteran driver shut the door
each time. On the final lap, Van Dyke again went a little wide and it looked like Berdahl would make it with the chequered flag in sight. Van Dyke was
able to win the drag race and came in with the victory with Berdahl in second and Creed finishing third right behind Berdahl.
After several minutes of smashing hits and banged up cars, B.J. Veld was the last man standing, or running, and claimed the Total Destruction event. Gary
Williams came down the frontstretch heading for the ramps in a big hearse. He flew several feet in the air and this time coming down head first in the
bunch of catch cars. He was unhurt and now one must wonder what is left to jump. He has completed a limo jump, a truck/camper pulling a boat trailor,
a bus, a side by side jump, and now the hearse.
The next event, at Western Speedway is set for September 4th with the Katana Boat Sportsman Series running in the Canada 200, along with the Stock Cars.
Western Speedway also will run an Enduro race Monday, September 6th with a 1:00 P.M. start time.

RANGER STEALS ONE BACK AT MONTREAL
Collects Third Canadian Tire Win With Bump-Pass Of Bowles Submitted by Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
MONTREAL (Aug. 29, 2010) - Andrew Ranger took one bump that nearly cost him the win and gave it right back to grab the checkered flag in the NAPA AUTOPRO
100 Sunday.
After losing the lead briefly to Jason Bowles on the white-flag lap, Ranger muscled past on the final turn to claim the victory in a NASCAR Canadian Tire
Series presented by Mobil 1 race that he had dominated until the final circuit around the 2.709-mile Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
It is Ranger's second win in three years at Montreal's 2.709-mile course; he was second in last year's event.
It's the third win of the season -- all on road-courses -- for the Roxton Pond, Quebec, driver who is running a partial schedule in the series along with
his NASCAR K&N Pro Series obligations. The two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion has 12 career wins in the series with nine coming on road courses.
Don Thomson Jr. finished second, followed by Robin Buck, Scott Steckly and Jason Hathaway. Kerry Micks Trevor Seibert, J.F. Dumoulin, Ron Beauchamp Jr. and
rookie John Farano rounded out the top 10.
Bowles, the 2009 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion, limped his car across the line in 20th with major hood damage.
Bowles and Ranger ran 1-2, respectively, in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Infineon Raceway in Sonama, Calif., earlier this year before Bowles ran
out of gas 100 yards from the finish line and handed that win to Ranger. Sunday in Montreal, Bowles had several restarts to challenge Ranger include one on
Lap 3 where they made contact in Turn 1 that briefly put Bowles into the lead. However, Ranger quickly regained the top spot.
Bowles took advantage of a green-white-checkered finish to make a move for the lead on Ranger in the hairpin Turn 10. Ranger wobbled from the contact but
slipped back into second. As the leaders went through the final chicane, Ranger returned the favor. Bowles spun into the retaining wall and Ranger kept the
momentum and took the lead.
Points leader JR Fitzpatrick and his closest challenger DJ Kennington both suffered mechanical issues early. Fitzpatrick, who started on the front row
alongside Ranger, picked up enough spots through attrition to finish 18th. Kennington completed just 14 laps of 24 laps and finished 28th. Fitzpatrick,
who carried a 16-point lead into the race, extended his lead to 51 points with just three races left on the schedule.
Both Steckly and Micks capitalized on the opportunity and moved into striking distance of the two leaders should either or both encounter further misfortune.
Micks now trails Fitzpatrick by 92 points and Steckly is 101 points off the pace.
The next NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race will be the Wild Wing 300 presented by DriveWise at Barrie (Ont.) Speedway.

MUNN STRETCHES POINTS LEAD Submitted by Kaleb Hart
For Skagit Speedway veteran Alan Munn, a season like this has been a long time coming. On Saturday night, Munn won his third race of the year and
stretched his points lead in the Budweiser 360 division at ASA member track Skagit Speedway, leading all 25 laps of the main in his Munn Construction #42 XXX.
Alan has never won a Skagit Speedway track championship in his 30+ years of racing and will look to bring home his first season title with only one points
race remaining. Evan Funk was second in the Jeff Jansma powered #8r Rocket. Danny Kirkpatrick was third in the Jet City Equipment #7k Maxim. Kirkpatrick
was quick time. Heat wins went to Mack Brown and Devin Madonia.
Steve Parker shook a 6 season monkey of his back, taking home his first main event victory since roughly late 2005 in the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprint
division. After dominating the Sportsman division in '05, Parker has bounced around divisions, finally landing back in a Sportsman Sprint in '10. After
battling mechanical woes, Parker put it all together on this cool August night, leading all 20 laps en route to the win in his Construction Unlimited #23 XXX.
Justin Youngquist was second in the Blade Chevrolet #56 XXX. Dylan Dunham was third in the Tib Automotive #7d J&J. Heat wins went to Parker and Paul Burdick.
Travis Jacobson has been on a tear at Skagit Speedway over the past month and continued that tear on Saturday night as he won for the 3rd time this calendar
month, leading all 25 laps of the Associated Asphalt 410 main. Jacobson pulled off the elusive clean sweep, setting quick time and winning the heat race as
well, driving the Performance RC #8r Eagle. Points leader Jesse Whitney was second in the RPM Rentals #88 Eagle. Jayme Barnes was third in the Jerry Chambers
Chevrolet #33 XXX.
In a recurring theme of the night, Wade Swatzina led all 17 laps of the Pull A Part Outlaw Hornet feature. Swatzina was only seriously challenged once, as he
fought off a late race attempt on his position by Rick Young. Young took to the inside on a lap 14 restart, pulling even with Wade going into turn one.
Swatzina battled back, out powering Young off of turn two as he raced away for the win. Following Young for second was Matt Ploeg, whose third place finish
was a career best. Swatzina and Brian Michelson won the heats.

KASEY KAHNE WINS SAGE FRUIT SHOWDOWN Submitted by Kaleb Hart
A strange night at ASA member track Skagit Speedway ended with the returning Kasey Kahne winning the Sage Fruit Showdown. After running
second for the first half of the Budweiser 360 sprint car 20 lap main event, Kasey experimented with the high groove coming through turns three and
four, finding the extra speed he needed to catch up with race leader Seth Bergman.
Kahne pulled even with Bergman coming out of turn two on the
thirteenth lap, powering by him down the back straight away to take the point. Kahne expertly navigated lapped traffic until a yellow came out on
lap 16, giving him open air with Bergman and Austen Wheatley in behind him. Kahne was flawless on the restart, visiting Skagit Speedway's victory
lane for the first time since the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in 2003 in his Sage Fruit sponsored #4 Maxim.
"The guys did a good job...the Sage Fruit
car was really fast. The 23 car (Bergman) got me on the second start, so I had to pass him back at that point" said Kasey with a smile in victory
lane. Bergman came home second in the Superior Marine #23 Eagle. Austen Wheatley took third in his Skagit Speedway debut driving the #44w Wolfweld.
Wheatley set quick time on the night and won his heat race. Rod Perkins and Danny Kirkpatrick showed the young guys how to get around, as both
veterans also won their heats. Kahne won the dash.
The enthusiastic crowd sat through two delays during the night, as sprint car driver Bud Ashe crashed hard into the turn two wall, heading to the local
hospital for observation after a lengthy extraction. In between the second and third heat race, a local power line went down, knocking out the power to
the back straight lights. Speedway crews scrambled to put backup lighting in place, with the push truck crew illuminating the back stretch with the flood
lights on their trucks. The 360 drivers in heat three gave speedway officials the thumbs up, and ran the third heat without incident. Both Outlaw Hornet
heats were also run without incident under the push truck lit back stretch. Skagit Speedway wants to thank the fire and safety crew, push trucks, officials
as well as the drivers and fans for sticking with us through the hardships of the evening.
In the Pull A Part Outlaw Hornet division, Ken Higby overcame his season long motor woes to hit victory lane, leading every lap except the first on his way
to the W. Rick Young took second and Ashley Lewellen third. Higby and John Gunderson won the heats.

HORNETS CLOSE OUT 2010 SEASON
Langford, B.C., August 25, 2010 Submitted by Ken Keating
The Steve Copp Construction sponsored Hornet Wednesday Night Fever came to a close on Wednesday night with fifty-two cars qualified to race in five
Trophy Dashes, twelve Heat races, and three Main events.
Cam Stanfield in the Expert Division, Mike Halls in the Rookie Division, and Lois Lagan in
the Bumblebee Division led their respective classes in overall points as racing began on this night and hoping to solidify their positions.
Trophy Dash wins went to Lois Lagan, Rhett Smith, Richard Shuck, Garrett Smith, and Mike Melin. Heat race wins went to Mike Moss, Matt Schultz, Phil
Lagan, Caleb VanBree, Mike Melin, and Corey Sandirson in the Expert Class. James Bennett, Larry Rogers, Glenn Rand, Richard Shuck, Ryan Smith, and Davin
Otke were Heat race winners in the Rookie class.
Eric Fournier and James Bennett shared the front row for the B-Main event. The top two Hornets and Bumblebees would transfer to the Feature event of the
night. Fournier grabbed the lead followed quickly by Meagan McCollum and Real Fournier for the first seven laps. There was a lot of bumping and jostling
for position and in one incident McCollum got tagged on lap eight and lost a lot of positions and Ian Walker moving to third and then to second as Glenn
Rand also moved up one lap later. On lap eleven the yellow came out for a spinning car on turn two. On the double file restart, Walker took over the lead
followed by Davin Otke and Rand. When the chequered flag dropped Walker took the win followed by Otke, Rand, Stephan Sager, and Lois Lagan rounding out the
top five. Fournier, Otke, Lagan, and Darci Denis were the drivers that would transfer from this race.
Rob Lewis and Mike Moss led seventeen cars to the green flag for twenty laps of racing in the Expert Feature event with Moss grabbing the early lead
followed by Rocky Sandhu and Matt Schultz. At times the drivers attempted to run four wide as the faster cars were trying to get to the front. On lap
five the yellow came out as Jessica Hall's car came to a stop on the backstretch. On the double file restart, Sandhu and Schultz were lined up side by
side with Moss getting the early edge and good tough racing behind him with Mike Melin and Corey Sandirson. Melin took the lead on lap eight with Sandirson
all over the rear bumper and actually went by but before the lap was complete, Melin pushed right back to regain the lead with Shultz still in the hunt.
On lap thirteen, Sandirson muscled his way to the top spot as Shultz moved up to run third one lap later. On lap seventeen, Reece Crocker took over running
third sending Shultz back one spot. When the dust settled, Sandirson came away with his first win of the year followed by Melin, Crocker, Shultz, and Phil
Lagan rounding out the top five positions in a very competitive Feature event.
Helen Thorne had the pole for the start of the Feature event with the Rookie Class and twenty-four cars lined up to take the green flag. On lap three,
Cole Schuurman grabbed the lead followed by Horne, Richard Shuck, Devin Fournier, and Ruxton Pitt for the first six laps. On lap seven, Shuck got bumped
around and was given a pretty good hit coming out of turn four and sending him into the pits for a quick look at the damage. Chris Davis moved up to run
in third by lap nine while several drivers changed positions behind the front runners including Ryan Smith coming through the pack in a hurry. On lap
fourteen, Smith grabbed the lead while Rhett Smith was also coming up in a hurry. On lap seventeen, Rhett took over the second spot and started to put
the heat on the other Smith as drivers were still changing positions behind them. When all was said and done, Ryan came home with the victory followed
by Rhett, Schuurman, Laura-Ashley Grant, and Tom Davis rounding out the top five positions. Ashley Grant again took the top Bumblebee honors on this night.
There has been some great racing, hard hits, and big car counts all year and tonight was no different as the curtain dropped on the Hornet 2010 season.
The Series has produced a lot of different winners in all classes, great entertainment for the fans, a lot of fun for the drivers, and new Champions.
Cam Stanfield won the overall title, for the Expert Class with 1421 points followed by last season's Champion, Bill Peacey, Phil Lagan, Garrett Smith,
and Jean-Luc Lagan rounding out the top five. Mike Halls is the Rookie Champion for 2010 with a total of 1245 points followed by Rhett Szevics, Ryan Smith,
John Lerik and Richard Shuck the top five. Lois Lagan is the top Bumblebee for 2010 with 972 points. Congratulations to all three new Champions and a well
deserved thank you to Steve Copp for his outstanding committment and support for this Series. Thank you to all the fans for your support as without the
fans there would be no racing. We will see you all in 2011.
The next racing event features the Demo Series, with Demo Cars, Demo Trucks, Figure 8s, Mini Vans, and the Bomber Series with Brandon Steen and Giles
Cyr challenging for the Championship. Also on the card is a hearse jump with Gary Williams set to try leaping cars again. Langford's own Glen Creed,
driving his Louisville Ford, will lead a bunch of Big Rigs back to the track with the legendary "Pinkfoot" Peterbuilt owned by Peter Van Dyk set to
duke it out. This event will be on Saturday, August 28th. See you there.

TOM STORMS TO OILMENS VICTORY Submitted by Gord Craig, NPP
EDMONTON, AB. - A major storm system held off long enough to allow Mike Tom the opportunity to win the 17th annual Oilmen's Classic at Castrol Raceway
Saturday night.
"I'm really excited about putting my name alongside the list of drivers that have won this event.
I'm so proud of my team." Rain began
falling just as Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series race teams were making their way onto the track for the Oilmen's Feature. The shower lasted
several minutes then suddenly stopped. Doppler radar showed a small window of opportunity to get the race in before the next wave of heavier rainfall was
to move into the region. "When it started to rain I think a lot of us (drivers) thought we were done. It was nice to see that green flag." The Stony Plain,
Alberta driver started the Oilmen's Feature in the third position in his Enerbuilt Technologies #55 Chevrolet. "We made some bold set up changes that we've
never tried on this car before." Whitecourt, Alberta's Pat Fines sat on the pole and jumped out to a commanding lead. For over half the Oilmen's Feature Tom,
Travis Day and Kevin Clark battled hard for track position.
With five laps to go Tom managed to break away from the battle with Day and Clark and set his sights on the race leader. Fines was just four laps away
from claiming his first ever Feature win in a NPP Late Model when Tom began his challenge for the race lead. "Pat ran an incredible race. He was a bit
higher up on the track than where I wanted to run. He held his line the entire time. His car was definitely stronger on the straights where I think we were
better in the corners." Tom grabbed the race lead with four laps to go. Current NPP Series point leader Bruce Broughton, who had handling problems the entire
Oilmen's Feature, managed to move up to third getting past Day. On the final corner Whitecourt's Kevin Wheeler made a bold move squeezing between Fines and
Broughton to steal second place. Moments after the checkered flag flew the rain began to fall. Mike Tom's victory and Kevin Wheeler's second place finish
narrows the gap in the NPP Championship point standings. Only 55 points separates the top three drivers with one race to go in the 2010 season.

SCOTT AUMEN WINS DAFFODIL CUP
Langford, B.C., August 21, 2010 Submitted by: Ken Keating
A lovely performance, of the U.S. and Canadian Anthems by local singer Jenny Rhodes, was a great way to begin the finale of the Daffodil Cup two day
event held at Western Speedway and in front of a huge crowd.
The program included Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and Feature events for the OTRA Series,
WilRoc Lites, and the high flying WilRoc Sprint Cars along with the NSRA Series featuring the fastest cars and drivers in the Pacific Northwest. Several
cars that suffered damages on Friday were repaired and ready to go. Matt Mansell loaned NSRA driver Sierra Jackson a backup WilRoc car as she blew a
motor in Friday's race and she qualified faster than Mansell himself. Trophy Dash wins went to Duane Zeinstra in the OTRA Series, Marc Parkinson WilRoc
Lites Series, and Jeff "The Hurricane" Montgomery in the Sprint Car Series. Deter Lajeune and Wadye Heckford were winners in the WilRoc Lite Heat races,
Dan Morneau and Larry Joyce won their respective Heat races with the OTRA Series, and Randy Vincent, Chase Larson, and Jeff Bird won Heat races in the
Sprint Car Series.
Bill Stidston and Dano Ryan led twelve cars to the green flag for twenty-five laps of racing in the Old Time Racing Association Feature event with
George "The Jet" Jenson taking the lead after just one lap. Ron Simpson held the second position early as did Kail Beck but that position was taken by
Duane Zeinstra on lap six and the third spot was taken by James Campbell. Up front Jenson had built a pretty good lead over the first five or six laps
but Zeinstra reeled him in and on lap nine passed Jenson for the lead while Campbell used two more laps to take over the second spot. On lap twelve, Dan
Moneau took over the third spot and began to reel in the second place car driven by Campbell. On lap fifteen, Morneau took over the second spot and
watched as Duane Zeinstra got the chequered flag. Morneau, Campbell, Jenson, and Kail Beck rounded out the top five positions in a flag to flag race.
Before the race was one lap down, Deter Lejeune hit the turn four wall and suffered enough front end damage to his car that put him out for the night and
bringing out a red flag. On the full restart, Matt Verhagen and Mark Gall had the front row for twenty-five laps of racing in the WilRoc Lites Feature
event with Gall leading for the first two laps. On lap four, Jesse Dardengo jumped from his tenth starting spot and into the lead followed quickly by Brian
Bickford and Paul Verhagen. Behind them, Dale Robinson and Marc Parkinson were in a great battle trying to make their way through traffic. On lap fourteen,
Robinson jumped a tire but managed to come to a stop before hitting the turn one wall bringing out a yellow flag. On the restart, Parkinson got a great
jump and moved into the second spot dropping Bickford back to third. Once out front Dardengo and Parkinson ran away from the field and, as they have done
so many times in the past, put on another great race with Parkinson putting all sorts of pressure on Dardengo for the lead. On this night, Dardengo took
the chequered flag with Parkinson, Bickford, Stephan Dardengo, and Joe Dardengo rounding out the top five positions.
The sky was a bright red, lightening was on the ground, and thunder pierced the night air as twenty-four high powered, lightening quick, ground shaking
Sprint Cars lined up for fifty laps of racing for the Daffodil Cup/Denny Rand Memorial race.
As on Friday night, with six cars under 14 seconds
qualifying times, five cars went under that mark Saturday with Scott Aumen and Andy Alberding, from Roseburg, OR, actually clocking identical times at
13.739 and joined by Jeff Montgomery, Guy Barrett, and Kenny Hamilton besting the 14 second barrier. Greg Middendorf and Chris Schmelzle shared the front
row for the start of racing with Schmelzle grabbing the lead after the first lap with current points leader Matt Hein, also from Roseburg, moving into
second two laps later and then taking the lead on lap six. Scott Aumen was also on the move taking the third spot after just four laps followed by Alberding
one lap later. On lap fourteen, Aumen got by Schmelzle for second with Alberding following suit one lap later. On lap seventeen, Randy DuBois spun out
bringing out a yellow flag. On the restart, Hein, who had had a pretty good lead, now had the field bunched close behind him and with the drop of the
green got away again. Hein and Aumen started to separate themselves until the yellow came out again as Ron Larson hit the wall on lap twenty-four. The
leader then entered the pits with heating problems thus leaving Aumen up front. Hein would rejoin the field but at the back of the pack. On the restart,
Aumen took off followed by Alberding and Schmelzle. On lap twenty-seven, Jeff "The Hurricane" Montgomery had moved all the way from twenty-first to fourth
and two laps later got by Schmelzle for third and running three wide at times. The yellow came out again on lap twenty-eight as three cars got together
going through turns one and two that included Todd Coleman, Austin Anderson, and Chase Larson. As cars, at this point might be low on fuel to go fifty
laps, the race was halted to allow fuelling and cleanup in the corners.
On the restart, and twenty-two laps remaining, Aumen again went into the lead followed by Alberding, Montgomery, Schmelzle, and Guy Barrett the top five.
On lap thirty-two, Barrett shuffled Schmelzle back a spot to move into fourth. Two more yellows came out quickly as Kyle Vantreight hit the turn four wall
and Schmelzle who had a great run going spun out along with Barrett. The final yellow came out on lap forty as Darren Yates and Matt Hein got together
and spinning out. When the chequered flag dropped, it was Scotty Aumen taking the win followed by Alberding, Montgomery, Jeff Bird, and Cory Lockwood
rounding out the top five positions. Coupled with this win and total points gathered in the two days, Scott Aumen claimed the Daffodil Cup, the Denny
Rand Memorial Trophy, and the Feature event win in front of a near capacity crowd.
The next event, at Western Speedway, is the grand finale in the Steve Copp Construction sponsored Wednesday Night Fever Series with the Hornet and
Bumblebee cars and looking to crown Champions. Next Saturday night, August 28th, Western Speedway presents the Demo Series with Demo Cars, Trucks, Mini
Figure 8s, Mini Vans, and the Bomber Series with Giles Cyr and Brandon Steen set to resume their battle for supremecy. Also on this card, Gary Williams is
going to jump a hearse in his quest to leap anything with four wheels. Also joining the hit parade will be the return of the Big Rigs with Peter Van Dyke
and the Peterbuilt "Pinkfoot" machine along with hometown driver Glen Creed and his big Louisville Ford.

LOCKWOOD WINS STAGE ONE DAFFODIL CUP
Langford, B.C., August 20, 2010 Submitted by: Ken Keating
A good crowd was on hand last evening to hear Peter Bullock perform a great opening to the 50th anniversary of the Daffodil Cup with the Star Spangled
Banner and Oh Canada.
Then it was on with Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and Main events for the Stock Car Series, WilRoc Lites, and the WilRoc Sprint Car
Series joined by the NSRA for the first of a two day show. It didn't take long for the excitement to begin as Scott Aumen, "Mr Excitement" himself was the
first to qualify and racked up a blistering 13.724 second lap around the Langford oval. In fact the first three cars to qualify were under the 14 second
mark and in all six drivers accomplished that feat.
Billy Stidston had the pole for the start of the Stock Car Feature event with Kevin Knight to his outside ready for thirty laps of racing. Stidston took
the lead after three laps only to have Ryan Wade pass him on the eighth lap. Behind him Stidston, Daryl Crocker and Aaron Wilkie were dicing for positions
with Wilkie taking over the second spot on lap thirteen. Dave Reside moved into the third spot on lap seventeen while Kirk Peacey, driving the #15 car,
moved into fourth two laps later. Over the remainder of this race nothing changed up front but Dan Myers did move up to take over the fifth spot on lap
twenty-three and followed Wade, with the win, Wilkie in second, Reside, and Peacey to the chequered flag.
The WilRoc Lites were running for twenty-five laps and the Roy Smith Memorial Trophy as Mark Gall and Brian Bickford led the field of fourteen cars to the
green flag. Dale Robinson grabbed the lead on lap two leaving Gall to battle with Jesse and Joe Dardengo for the next positions. Behind them Steven
Dardengo and Deter Lejeune were in a good race themselves and looking to move up. On lap five, Jesse took over the second spot with Joe moving to third
two laps later while Steven also advanced a position. Up front, Robinson had gained a sizeable lead but in the late stages he was feeling the heat as
Jesse had moved up to the rear nerf bar on the #8 car. The laps ran out before Jesse could get by and followed Robinson to the chequered flag with Joe,
Steven, and Lejeune rounding out the top five positions. This was Robinson's first Feature win in this Series.
Twenty-five high winged lightening quick Sprint Cars took the grid for forty laps of racing in stage one of the prestigious Daffodil Cup led by Cory
Lockwood with Randy DuBois on the outside front row. Behind them NSRA points leader, Matt Hein; past Strawberry Cup winner, Jeff Bird; two time Feature
event winner with the NSRA, eighteen year old Sierra Jackson; Guy Barret; always a front runner; the "Tirefryer" Scott Aumen four time WilRoc Champion;
Andy Alberding past NSRA Champion; Jeff "The Hurricane" Montgomery with so many titles and wins; Matt Mansell, Chris Schmelzle, driving the #25Z car;
Ken Hamilton, driving "The Pink Lady" a car with a great history; Robbie Haslam, and a host of others.
The excitement, anticipation, and adrenlin was in high gear as the green flag fell with Cory Lockwood jumping to the lead on the first lap with DuBois
falling into second and Bird into third followed by Hein and Jackson. On lap six the yellow came out as Jeff Bird spun around. On the restart, Lockwood
got away again only to have Jackson enter the pits as her car shut down. This moved Hein to third with Barrett and Alberding moving up a spot as well.
Over the next several laps they remained in this running order until lap nineteen when the yellow came out as Ken Hamilton got together with another car
and was pulled to the pits with front end damage thus ending his run. On the restart, again Lockwood got out quickly followed by the same group except
Montgomery now moved into the fifth spot. The race was slowed on several occassions over the next several laps for spinning cars and on each restart the
top running five cars stayed relatively even. On lap thirty-six, Guy Barrett passed Montgomery for fifth only to have Montgomery take it back on the
final lap. When the chequered flag dropped Lockwood was the victor followed by DuBois, Matt Hein, Alberding and Montgomery rounding out the top five.
After the flag dropped, DuBois plowed into the turn two wall but should be back for the finale Saturday. The Roy Smith Memorial Trophy was also awarded
to the top running WilRoc car and that driver was Guy Barrett as he accepted the Trophy from members of the Smith family.

SCHUSS WINS 7 STRAIGHT AT LOCAL MERRITT DIRT TRACK Submitted by Merritt Speedway Fan
As the season began Schuss moved from Agassiz as his home track to a local track in Merritt to win himself a championship. Coming second overall in
Agassiz with 6 respectable main event wins behind his back, Schuss decided to move to the good ol fun of dirt racin'. His Dad Jim Schuss won the championship
in the bomber class in 2008 and is looking to hoist that trophy himself this year. With 2 races to go he looks pretty good for the championship already.
Close competitors are Brendin Parker, driver of the number 30 4cyl bomber and the number 2 Brad Mackay. With a low car count as it is, "Merritt is a one of a
kind race track that all should enjoy racing on". The crowd always seems to find a good way to enjoy the fun of dirt racin'. "It offers cheap membership
and easy going people, and most of all, a lot of fun!" says Schuss as he enjoys banging door handles with his young and race ready competitors. Next race in
Merritt is August 28th and the final race is on September 11th.

OILMEN'S MEMORIES
EDMONTON, AB. - The 17th running of the Oilmen's Classic, one of Western Canada's longest running stock car events, is set for this weekend at
Castrol Raceway. Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series racer Travis Day competed in the very first Oilmen's race and is looking forward to
Saturday nights Feature. "Over the years we've had some pretty good Oilmen's races and some real bad ones too." The fondest Oilmen's memories for the
driver of the Trappers Auto Parts #10 Chevrolet goes back to the 1994 race at Yellowhead Raceway in Hinton, Alberta. "This was the very first Oilmen's
and we finished third. I remember that very well," smiles the Whitecourt, Alberta driver, "it was a major battle just to get to the Feature." Days first
ever Oilmen's race unfortunately began with a bang. "I had one of my tires ripped off in a heat race crash and at first I thought that was it, we were
done."
Day and his crew managed to patch up his damaged #10 Camaro in time for the Oilmen's Feature. "I think this is the first time I've admitted this but
because of the crash we had no brakes in that Feature." Day indicates he was forced to come up with a creative way to slow down his brakeless race car.
"Hinton has no inner walls. They had just a dirt burm to mark the inner line of the track. Just before going into the corners I would intentional go
low and use this burm to scrub off some speed. It was a pretty rough way to slow a race car down but it worked." The Oilmen's Classic has been run at
Edmonton's Castrol Raceway since 2001. This year the NPP Late Model Series and the Alberta Sportsman Sprint Car Series team up for two nights of
action. Friday will be an open practice night for NPP Late Model Series competitors and preliminary races for Sportsman Sprint Car teams. Saturday
is the big race night with the NPP Late Model Series Oilmen's Classic and the Sportsman Sprint Cars X-treme Cup races.

RANGER SCORES COMEBACK VICTORY
Rebounds From Early Trouble For Third Straight Trois-Rivieres Win Submitted by Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec, Canada (Aug. 15, 2010) - Defending NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 champion Andrew Ranger showed why you never give
up in a road course race.
After being involved in an incident with JR Fitzpatrick racing for the lead, which sent Ranger into a barrier around Turn 6 and losing several positions,
the Roxton Pond, Quebec native rebounded to pick up his third consecutive win at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres winning the GP3R 100 Sunday.
After falling back several positions after his contact with Fitzpatrick, Ranger was able to move up to third by Lap 19 and back into the lead on a Lap 29
restart when Ranger made it three wide passing Fitzpatrick and Kerry Micks to the inside for the lead.
Ranger enjoyed a comfortable lead until Maryeve Dufault spun on Lap 38 to set up a green-white-checkered finish.
Ranger was able to stay out front and keep Micks behind him for his second NCATS victory of the year and fourth road course win of 2010.
Fitzpatrick followed in third with DJ Kennington fourth and Jeff Lapcevich fifth.
Both Ranger and Fitzpatrick led a race-high 16 laps with both drivers earning 10 bonus points for leading the most laps which caused a change atop the
championship point standings. Kennington, who brought a 14-point lead into the event, now trails Fitzpatrick by a single point. Fitzpatrick and Kennington
have volleyed the points lead back and forth all season.
Scott Steckly was sixth and J.F. Dumoulin seventh while Jason Hathaway was eighth. Peter Klutt and Mark Dilley rounded out the top 10.
Ranger has also recorded wins this season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series with triumphs at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., and Lime Rock Park in Lakeville,
Conn., and his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series victory in Toronto on July 17.
With this win in Trois-Rivieres, Ranger has 10 wins and 17 podium finishes in his 18 road-course starts in NASCAR including his third-place effort last season
in Montreal¹s NASCAR Nationwide Series event.
The race was slowed due to caution just three times for eight laps and the race lead changed hands five times among three drivers.
Television coverage of the GP3R 100 will air on TSN and TSN HD on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. ET
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 returns to oval-track racing in its next outing on Saturday, Aug. 21 at Mosport Speedway near Bowmanville,
Ont., for the Dickies 200.

YOUNGQUIST NOW TWO TIME SKAGIT WINNER Submitted by: Kaleb Hart
Alger, WA. - Fortune once again smiled on Justin Youngquist as he went on to win his second straight Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprint Main Event at ASA member
track Skagit Speedway. Driving his Bubba Suds Car Wash #56 XXX, Youngquist inherited the lead on lap 9 when race leader Steve Parker fell out with what they
thought was an oil line issue. Justin paced the field comfortably until lap 17, when lapped traffic and a hard charging Dylan Dunham reared their collective
heads. While Youngquist looked for the way to safely clear the slower cars, Dunham took his shot, showing the wheels of his Tib Automotive #7d J&J to the leader
coming out of the outside of turn two. Youngquist gassed it up hard, shooting hard to the inside of the lapped car in front of him, safe for the moment.
Dunham also cleared the lapper, and the race was on again coming to the white flag. Dunham tucked in behind Justin in one and two, then took a high entrance
to turn three. At the apex of the corner, Dylan drove the car down sharply to the bottom of the track, shooting himself forward with enough momentum that it
made the race to the finish a side by side, wheel to wheel drag race. When the dust settled, Youngquist held of Dunham for his second straight win in the
Sportsman Sprints by a mere .057 seconds. Rob Schroder was third in the R&R Autoworks #1r XXX. Heat race wins went to Youngquist and Bill Rude.

Alan Munn was victorious for the second time on the year in the Budweiser 360 Sprints. Munn led all 25 laps for the victory in the Munn Construction #42 XXX.
Munn was challenged late by second place finisher Brock Lemley piloting the Randy Price owned #21 Maxim. Kelsey Carpenter took third place late in the Dri Eaz
#29 XXX after Jared Peterson spun out trying to make a move on Lemley. Heat race wins went to Rod Perkins and Evan Funk. Peterson was quick time.

Ben Gunderson rolled to an easy win in the Pull A Part Outlaw Hornets. Starting third, Gunderson was in the lead by the exit of turn two on the first lap
after beating the lead row of cars to the inside of turn one on the initial start. The win was Gunderson's fourth of 2010. Ashley Lewellen finished a career
best second, with Freddie Vela taking third. Gunderson and Lewellen won the heats.
Pull A Part Outlaw Hornets
Heat 1 - Ben Gunderson, Ken Higby, Tony Mascio, Mike Ploeg, Tyler Ketchum, Wade Swatzina, Greg Hibma, Tyler West, Jeremy Dethman, James Sims
Heat 2 - Ashley Lewellen, Rick Young, Freddie Vela, TJ Campbell, Brigham Mirabelli, Larry Kwik, Howard Vos, Jerry Birdsey Jr, Tina Thibert
Travis Jacobson's trash turned into Logan Forler's treasure, as the young Orting, WA native parlayed a muffler malfunction on Jacobson's car into his first
Skagit Speedway victory in the Associated Asphalt 410 division. Jacobson took off on the initial start and led the first 16 laps, streaking away from Forler
who climbed to second quickly. A lap 12 caution for Eric Fisher bunched the field up, and somewhere between lap 12 and 16, Jacobson lost his muffler. Speedway
officials gave the mechanical black flag to Jacobson, who retired to his pits. The lead was handed over to Logan, who raced the rest of the way to victory in
the Steve Forler Trucking #2l Maxim. Forler is becoming known as a driver who can win at any track in any car, as he has 4 main event wins on the year at three
different tracks in three different divisions. Jesse Whitney was second in the Rocky's Plumbing #88 Eagle. Kevin Smith took third in the Skagit Powdercoating
#75 XXX. Whitney won the heat and was quick time.

HOLMES' SUCCESS CONTINUES IN COLORADO Submitted by Kevin Green, NASCAR
DACONO, Colo. (Aug. 14, 2010) - NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Eric Holmes' dream season continues and now he has 10,000 more reasons to smile.
The two-time series champion drove his No. 20 NAPA Toyota around Luis Martinez Jr. for the lead on Lap 107 and held on during a 10-lap shootout to win
the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Bonus Challenge 150 Saturday night at Colorado National Speedway.
The win also gave Holmes a $10,000 bonus as he won his third race in the five-race Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Challenge. Holmes won earlier this season at
Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore., and Montana Raceway Park in Kalispell, Mont., to become eligible to win the bonus Saturday.
The victory was the second in a row and fourth of the year for the Escalon, Calif. driver who has also finished in the top-10 in eight of the nine races
so far this season and now has 13 career series wins.
"That was a hard run there, a lot of fun, really fun," Holmes said. "This track creates a good two-wide, three-wide racing. The NAPA Toyota probably wasn't
as good as his (Martinez) there at the mid-part of the race, but I just figured out a line that worked good for me and I was able to get by him. Once I got
out front I was all right. The restarts my car didn't really want to take off. It made it a little tough."
Paulie Harraka almost made it two wins in a row at CNS as he made a late charge to finish second to Holmes, his teammate at Bill McAnally Racing. Martinez,
the leading contender for this year's Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award finished a career-best third. Greg Pursley and David Mayhew completed the top five.
"Our crew showed their NAPA know-how tonight, that's for sure," Harraka said. "When we got going, we didn't have the car quite balanced the way I wanted it.
At the halfway mark, we rolled through the pits, went to the back of the field and made the changes we wanted to. Fortunately, they were the right ones. We
just kept creeping our way through the field, on and on and on. We just didn't have enough time. We got to second, got around Luis with five to go. I was going
all out to get by Eric, but just didn't have the time to do it."
Martinez started from point after setting his first career fast time in winning the 21 Means 21 Pole Award by Coors Brewing Company. He led early in the race
until Holmes, who started on the outside front row, made the pass on Lap 3. Holmes remained out front until Martinez got back around after a restart on Lap 78.
Martinez set the pace while going after his first career win; however, Holmes was able to pass Martinez for the lead on Lap 107 and stayed out front the rest
of the way.
"The car stayed about the same the whole day from the time it came from the shop," Martinez said. "It unloaded fast. Right before qualifying, my guys told me
just sail it into the corner because it looks like the track's got a lot of grip. That's what I did. It ended up paying off real well for us."
"The race I thought was pretty good," he said. "We had a good car the first 75. After that it kind of started losing the drive off a little bit. We raced
Paulie hard to the last bit of the race. I don't think a podium's bad coming out here for the first time, being a rookie. This track's been awesome to us. I
couldn't be more excited."
The race was slowed six times by caution with the only multi-car incident of the race occurring during the final caution on Lap 136 after Michael Self and
Blake Koch collided while racing in the top 10. The final incident set up the sprint to the finish.
With the win, Holmes increased his lead in the championship standings to 114 points over Mayhew - with three races remaining this season.
"We padded our point lead tonight," Holmes said of his quest for a third title. "We've just got to play smart, but go to Roseville and Phoenix as planning on
winning races and not doing anything different than what we've been doing all year."
The Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Bonus Challenge from CNS will air on SPEED on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. ET.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 12 for the running of the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Challenge at Miller Motorsports Park in
Tooele, Utah.

RANGER TAKES TROIS-RIVIERES POLE
Sets Track Record En Route To Season's Third Pole Submitted by Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec, Canada (Aug. 14, 2010) - Andrew Ranger claimed the pole position for Sunday's GP3R 100 in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented
by Mobil 1 qualifying at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres in record fashion for his first series start since July 17 in Toronto.
Ranger, 23, navigated the 1.53-mile street course in 68.291 seconds, which translates to an average speed of 80.655 mph, and bested the record of 68.374
seconds set by Alex Tagliani a year ago. It was Ranger's third pole of the 2010 season and the eighth of his Canadian Tire Series career. The Roxton Pond,
Que., driver is a two-time race winner in Trois-Rivieres, but this is his first start on the pole. Additionally, he has three road-course wins this season
with NASCAR K&N Pro Series triumphs at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., and Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., and a Canadian Tire Series victory in
Toronto. All told, he has seven series wins on road courses to go along with three wins on ovals.
Starting alongside Ranger on the front row is JR Fitzpatrick who posted a qualifying time of 68.533 seconds (80.370 mph). With two wins - Mosport
International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont., and Edmonton (Alberta) City Centre Airport - already in the book this season and a victory at Montreal's
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 2009, Fitzpatrick, 22, has won three of the series' last four road-course events. The Cambridge, Ont., driver is a two-time
pole winner in Trois-Rivieres.
The second row consists of Mt. Albert, Ontario's Kerry Micks, who registered a time of 68.681 seconds (80.197 mph) and Anthony Simone, out of Holland
Landing, Ont., with a 68.719-second lap (80.153 mph).
Jason Hathaway, Don Thomson Jr., DJ Kennington, Scott Steckly, Ron Beauchamp Jr. and Trois-Rivieres' Louis-Philippe Dumoulin are the rest of the top-10
qualifiers.
Kennington, the current points leader, made contact with an outside retaining wall during his qualifying session, but the damage appears to be relatively
minimal. Fitzpatrick also spun at the end of his run, but did not hit anything.
The GP3R 100 is slated to take the green flag Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Whelan Modified Tour, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and the regions finest short track teams in the second annual ACT Invitational. There will also be
Sprint Cup qualifying on Saturday in what has become one of the most anticipated events of the stock car season.
"This is just a great couple of days for our teams. For veterans it is a chance to get to this great facility that has been the heartbeat of stock car racing
for the past twenty years, and for our younger teams, it is really a dream come true. The hard part is sorting out who gets the invites for the September race
after the practice sessions end," said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour.

winners.
Real Fournier and Patricia Cooper shared the front row for the start of the B-Main event with the top two Hornets and top two Bumblebees transfer to the
Feature event. Fournier got the early lead on the first lap followed quickly by Allan Brown and Hellen Thorne. Brown grabbed the lead on lap eight only to
lose it one lap later to Fournier and then took it back on lap ten. On lap eleven, Lois Lagan took over third and then took second one lap later. As the
field was coming out of turn four, and looking at the chequered flag, Brown slid wide and Lagan dove to the inside and nipped Brown for the win. Brown hung
on to the second spot with Fournier holding on for third. Brown, Fournier, Lagan, and Darci Dennis were the drivers advancing to the Feature event.
Jake Spring led a field of fifteen Experts to the green flag for the start of thirty laps of racing. He grabbed the early lead followed by Caleb VanBree
and Matt Schultz. Behind them Mike Melin, Howie Mace, and Garrett Smith were in a close battle for the next several positions while Cam Stanfield, Bill
Peacey, and Jean-Luc Lagan were trying to work their way to the front. On lap thirteen, Melin took over the second spot and then took the lead two laps
later. Meanwhile, Peacey had moved into the third spot with Stanfield also gaining spots as he was now running fourth after sixteen laps. Stanfield and
Peacey traded positions a couple of times over the next few laps while trying to also get by Melin. On lap twenty-two the yellow came out as Jean-Luc got
spun around and backing into the frontstretch wall. On a double file restart Melin and Stanfield shared the front row as they came around for the resumption
of green flag racing and over the next four laps, they ran door handle to door handle until Stanfield finally got clear for the lead with bill Peacey still
in the mix running third. At the chequered flag it was Stanfield, with his fourth Feature win, Melin, Peacey, Phil Lagan, and Howie Mace rounding out the
top five positions.
Twenty cars lined up to take the green flag in the Rookie Division led by John Broughton. Broughton took the early lead followed by Devin Fournier and
Cole Schuurman for the first five laps when Stephan Sager took over the second spot only to lose that position to Ryan Smith. On lap six the yellow came
out as Fournier went around and slammed into the frontstretch wall. The race was halted to make sure Fournier was OK as he hit on the drivers side. After
just a few moments he was set to resume. On the double file restart Broughton had Sager to his outside with Broughton gaining the lead again with Ryan Smith
taking the second spot dropping Sager back to third and Laura-Ashley Grant now running fourth. On lap ten, Smith took the lead dropping Broughton back to
second and Chris Davis now running third and Lois Lagan in fourth. Over the next several laps, a few cars got shuffled around as Grant got taken out and
John Lerik got tangled up with Mike Halls going through turn one. On lap eight, Lagan moved into the third spot dropping Davis back to fourth. Over the
next several laps, Smith maintained the lead and took the chequered flag followed by Broughton, Lagan, Davis, and Glen Rand rounding out the top five.
The next race for the Hornet Series will be held on August eighteenth with the final race, of 2010, will be August twenty fifth. Next event at Western
Speedway is the Blue Sky Music Festival with Tom Cochrane, Colin James, and Barney Bentall plus many more
on August fourteenth. On August 20th and 21st you will see the fastest cars in the Pacific Northwest as the WilRoc Sprint Cars along with the NSRA battle for
the prestigious Daffodil Cup and a piece of $50,000.00, the biggest purse in Western Speedway history. Also on this card will be the Lites and the Stock Car
Series on Friday night and the OTRA Series on Saturday night.

WEEKEND OF MAYHEM - DAY 2
Langford, B.C., August 8, 2010 Submitted by: Ken Keating
After rain spoiled the Saturday planned event at Western Speedway organizers were encouraged by the forecast for better weather on Sunday and
then went ahead with the second night of "Weekend of Mayhem" with the Demo Series, the Bombers, plus the Monster Trucks, and another car jump by
Calgary's Crazy Canuck Collin Heacock.
The program would include Trophy Dashes, Heat races, and Feature events for all classes. Trophy Dash wins went to Jeff Foley in Figure 8s, Keith
Hansen in Demo Cars, Heath Cooper in Demo Trucks, and Ron Benham in the Bomber Series. Benham and Rob Guadreault each took home a Bomber Heat race,
Craig Holfeld and Robin Trotter won their respective Heats, Aasen Baker won the Heat in the Demo Truck Series, and J.J. Taylor and Cody Young won
their Heats in the Figure 8 class.
As Rick and Eric Swansen had to catch a ferry later in the evening, they were first up putting Obsessed and Obsession, the Monster Trucks, through
their paces up and over some cars and jumps positioned at each end of the Speedway. Eric is only fourteen but he is not afraid to put the power to
the big Ford. Again, as he did Friday night, he had better airtime than his dad. He told his father: "Just do what I do." Rick is a little better at
doing the donuts however. Can you imagine the conversations at school when a fourteen year old says; "I was in Canada driving a Monster Truck." After
the Trophy Dashes the Swansens again put on a display of pure power from these trucks and then had to leave for California.
Derek Salling and George Newell shared the front row for the start of the Figure 8 Feature event and on the second lap Shawn Hitchings grabbed the lead
with a couple of drivers changing positions behind him. On lap six, Brandon Young took over the second spot followed by brother Cody with brother
James in the mix running fourth. On lap eleven, Cody took over the lead with Brandon taking second one lap later leaving Hitchings in a battle with
James Young, Kail Beck, and Cam Wilkinson. Over the next few laps there were some heavy hits and a couple of controversial calls but when the dust
settled, Cody Young took the chequered flag followed by Kail Beck and Brandon Young.
Ron Benham and Jarrod Sagmoen led the field to the green flag for the Bomber Series Feature event and by lap three Chris Broughton jumped into the
lead position. There was an early yellow and on the double file restart there was some contact between Rob Gaudreault and Brandon Steen that sent the
young driver into the wall losing several positions. Up front, Broughton and Gaudreault waged a good battle for several laps with Giles Cyr moving into
contention taking the second spot by lap nine. On lap fifteen, Cyr finally got by Broughton for the lead and began to check out. Broughton, Gaudreault,
and Steen ran bumper to bumper and door handle to door handle for several laps and every time Gaudreault was able to shut the door each time Steen
attempted to get the position away while Broughton still held the preferred line on both these drivers while still running second. On lap twenty-two,
Steen finally got a run on Gaudreault and made the pass for the third spot while Cyr went on for the win.
Paul Scotthorne and Heath Cooper shared the front row for the start of the Demo Truck Feature event. George Haywood, driving for Dakota Hansen, took the
lead by lap four with Cooper still running second until he lost that position, as he spun out, to Scotthorne on lap seven with Richard Milne with the
front runners as well. This race also was a hard hitting event as Mark Keeler got nailed on the frontstretch ending his night early. When the dust settled,
George Haywood took the win followed by Scotthorne and Cooper coming back for a third place finish.
Randy Weebe held the pole for the start of the Demo Car Feature event but lost the advantage to Craig Holfeld on the first lap. Holfeld then lost the
lead to Keith Hansen on lap four with Robin Trotter taking over the second spot two laps later. Hansen got a pretty good lead and Trotter was unable to
reel him in as he took second followed by Smokin Joe Liberatore.
After a perfect jump Friday, by the Crazy Canuck, everyone was ready to see him do it again. Measurements were taken, ramps were set up, and buses and
cars were put in place as Collin Heacock was buckling up in his car. Again he hit the ramp perfect and in a burst of flames from the pyrotecnics, Collin
soared over the buses and landed nose first into the last two cars set to break his crash. On this jump he almost cleared the catch cars altogether
bettering his jump on Friday. In the pro jump interview he said he had a little too much speed but was: "More nervous doing an interview than doing the
jump." He did get some serious airtime on this fly by!! You can check out both jumps on YouTube.

HOLMES ADDS NEW TRACK RECORD TO RESUME Submitted by Kevin Green, NASCAR
KALISPELL, Mont. - Eric Holmes added a new track to his résumé of wins as he took the victory in the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Bonus Challenge 150 in the inaugural
visit by the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West to Montana Raceway Park on Saturday night.
The two-time champion from Escalon, Calif., used a long green-flag run at the start of the race to move up from his starting position of seventh and set up his
charge for the lead. After a debris caution on Lap 103 bunched the field, Holmes worked past David Mayhew on Lap 113 and took the race lead - a spot that he would
not relinquish the rest of the night.
"I was hoping for no more cautions," Holmes said. "I knew I had the better car and I could stretch the lead out. I really wanted to take the high side once
I was leading. It was fun. I don't think we've ever gone 105 laps without a caution. I was definitely working. I almost got dizzy after that."
His charge to the front during the long green flag run did not come easy, according to Holmes.
"It was tough to pass, but I got by them guys," he said. "I was trying not to run David down. I didn't want to have to try to run him down, figuring there would
be a caution. About lap 100, I started putting my head down and going to try to catch him. Then we got the caution and that's all I needed, a couple good
restarts."
Holmes credited his Bill McAnally Racing team for having the right set-up on the car.
"The NAPA Toyota team did a great job setting the car up. It was good at the end when it mattered," he said. "I know we missed a little bit in qualifying. We've
been doing that this year. As long as we get to the front and not beat the car up too bad so we can race it next week in Denver."
It was Holmes' third win of the season and the 12th of his series career. As the leader in the championship standings coming into the event and the only driver
with multiple wins, he was able to pad his points with just four events remaining on the schedule in his quest for a third series title.
Mayhew, who led a race-high 94 laps, settled for a second-place finish and now trails Holmes by 79 points in the standings.
"He just has a real good car at the end of these short tracks," Mayhew said of Holmes. "He had us handled at the end. We really need to win one of these short
tracks. We've been second to that NAPA car way too many times."
Moses Smith finished the race in third. He was followed by Jonathon Gomez and Gary Lewis, who has top-five finishes in both of his career series starts.
Daryl Harr, Blake Koch, Michael Self, Luis Martinez Jr. and Todd Souza made up the remainder of the top-10 finishers.
In qualifying earlier in the evening, Greg Pursley collected his second Coors Light Pole Award of the year. He was caught up in a late-race incident, however,
which ended his night with an 18th-place finish.
The Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Bonus Challenge 150 from Montana Raceway Park will air on SPEED on Thursday, August 12 at 3 p.m. PT.
The next event on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West schedule is the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Bonus Challenge 150 at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, Colo., on

WEEKEND OF MAYHEM
Langford, B.C., August 6, 2010 Submitted by: Ken Keating
Western Speedway was the venue for another "Weekend of Mayhem" that featured the Demo Cars, Demo Trucks, Figure 8s, and the Bomber
Series. As well as the regular races, the Speedway also featured the Monster Trucks with Obsessed and Obsession with a fourteen year
old Eric Swanson behind the wheel of Obsessed.
He has been driving since the age of nine and in an interview stated: "I want to show my
old man what these trucks can really do." Rick Swanson is Eric's dad and he drove Obsession. In the first of two appearances, Eric actually
had more airtime than did Rick. On the second set of jumps, Rick broke a rear pinion leaving Obsession with a rear wheel missing. One
thing was certain, these trucks displayed some awesome power.
Kyle Rizok and Brenden Marquis shared the front row for the start of the Mini Figure 8 Main event and Rizok led the first three laps until
he was passed by James Young on lap four. On lap eight, Cody Young moved up to run second and one lap later Brandon Young moved into the
third spot. On lap fourteen, Cody took over the lead only to lose it to brother Brandon two laps later who in turn lost the lead back to
Cody after two more laps. Kail Beck moved into the second spot on lap nineteen while cars were changing positions behind him. Cody went on
to the win followed by Beck and Brandon Young.
Its only fitting that two of the faster cars had identical qualifying times in the Bomber Series. Giles Cyr and Brandon Steen have waged a
battle each and every race this season and tonight was no different as Brandon set a new track record only to have Giles Cyr equal that time
in his run. Both drivers qualified with a lap time of 19.477 and again found themselves starting at the back of the pack for the Feature
event. Mike Rutty and Jarrod Sagmoen, driving the #51 car, shared the front row for the start of Main event racing. Rutty led for the first
four laps until he was passed by Chris Broughton who was quickly followed by Rob Gaudreault now running second and Cyr jumping into third with
Steen moving into the fourth spot after just six laps. On lap eight, Cyr took over the second spot and then into the lead on lap eleven. Once
at the front, Cyr checked out on the rest of the field and left Broughton, Gaudreault, and Steen to battle for the next podium positions and
that they did over the remaining laps. Steen running fourth tried everything to get by Gaudreault using the outside and the inside groove and
each time Gaudreault shut the door. Each driver changed positions back and fourth until lap twenty-four when Gaudreault lost the handle going
through turn four and spun around. With one lap remaining Steen got by Broughton and took the second place finish as Cyr took the chequered
flag. Chris Broughton held on to the third spot.
Cody Young had the pole for the start of the Demo Car Feature event and led for the first two laps. He was overtaken by Greg Sagmoen on lap
three for the lead followed by Robbin Trotter. There was some controversy over this race as Sagmoen suffered a stop and go but got back out
at the end of the lead lap cars and worked himself back to the win followed by Trotter and Cody Young.
Dakota Hanson and Heath Cooper led the field to the green flag in the Demo Truck Feature event and after just two laps Aasen Baker went into
the lead followed by Kenny Baker and Richard Milne. On lap six Milne took the second spot and three laps later took over the lead. He went on
to take the win followed by Aasen Baker and Heath Cooper.
The finale for the evening was Collin Heacock known as the Crazy Canuck jumping a car over two school buses parked end to end and into some
catch cars lined up behind the buses. He would have to acheive a speed of 92 KPH to make the jump successful and clear the buses. In a post
jump interview he picked the spot he should reach and he nailed it right on. The car done a nose dive and flipped in the air doing a complete
double somersalt landing on its roof just off the catch cars. The car was a mess but the driver easily walked away after a great fly by.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature came calling with rain all day Saturday and washed out the second night of the Weekend of Mayhem. The next event,
at Western Speedway, is the Wednesday Night Fever with the Steve Copp Construction sponsored Hornet Series on August eleventh. There is no racing
on Saturday, August 14th as the Blue Sky Music Festival will take over the Speedway with
stars such as: TOM COCHRANE & RED RIDER - 8:30pm - 10:00pm, COLIN JAMES - 6:40pm - 8:10pm, BARNEY BENTALL & THE LEGENDARY HEARTS - 5:20pm - 6:20pm,
JON AND ROY - 3:50pm - 4:50pm, VINCE VACCARO - 2:30pm - 3:30pm, FEAR ZERO - 1:30pm - 2:10pm, MAURICE - 12:30pm - 1:10pm, ANDREW COLE - 11:30am -
12:10pm. Regular racing returns to Western Speedway on Friday August 20th with the high flying winged Sprint Cars of the WilRoc Series and the NSRA
bidding for the prestigious Daffodil Cup with a purse of $50,000.00 on the line. You won't want to miss this two day event!!

KENNINGTON RULES AGAIN
Earns Third Oval Track Victory This Season Submitted by Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
Saskatoon, Sask., Canada (Aug. 4, 2010) - DJ Kennington has been the king of the ovals in 2010. He picked up his third win of the season on an oval
track by taking the checkered flag Wednesday night in the Velocity Prairie Thunder at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.
The St. Thomas, Ont., driver - who had started from the pole after setting the fast time in qualifying - gained the lead following a round of pit stops
late in the race. He led a race-high 132 laps en route to his seventh series victory.
JR Fitzpatrick, who is locked in a back-and-forth battle for the championship with Kennington and held a six-point edge coming into the event, charged from
14th on the grid to finish second. Fitzpatrick had made a run at Kennington on the restart just after all the leaders pitted, but could not make it stick.
With the win, Kennington vaulted back past Fitzpatrick to take a 14-point lead in the standings.
Third place in the race went to Don Thomson Jr., with Scott Steckly finishing fourth and John Gaunt in fifth. Jason Hathaway, Kerry Micks, Mark Dilley,
Anthony Simone and Nathan Weenk completed the top 10.
After starting alongside each other on the front row, Thomson and Kennington exchanged the lead throughout the first half of the race. Thomson began to pull
away midway through the 250-lap event, but his margin was erased when the caution came out. Pit stops put him back to fifth, but he fought back to get past
Steckly late in the race.
The race was slowed just three times due to caution for 36 laps and the race lead changed five times between Kennington and Thomson.
In the championship point standings, Steckly and Thomson are closing in on the top two, as they try to make a push for the title as the season winds down.
The TSN telecast of the Velocity Prairie Thunder will air on Saturday, August 21 at 1 p.m. ET.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 returns to road-course action in its next outing for the GP3R 100 in Trois-Rivieres, Que., on Sunday,
Aug. 15 as part of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres.

WHITE AND SEIBERT OFF TO NASCAR SASKATOON
Posted: 08/03/10
NASCAR SASKATOON AUGUST 4, 2010 By NASCAR Media
Every good relationship has that certain somebody who made the first introductions. For Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, Sask., and
the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, that somebody was Todd Nichol.
Nichol (No. 6 Bayer Crop Science/Norton Chevrolet), who has been a competitor in the Canadian Tire Series since the beginning and also has raced
quite a bit at the Saskatoon track decided to put two and two together, but it wasn't quite that easy.
"To me, it made sense. Canadian Tire Series teams were traveling all the way across the country to race two times," said Nichol. "There's this great
new track sitting there in Saskatoon, so why not add a race on the way back from Edmonton and Vernon (B.C.)."
As the Canadian Tire Series prepares to make its second visit to the quaint .333-mile oval after a smashing debut there a year
ago, Nichol looks to be the hero, but he could easily could have been the goat.
"As with any club-operated track, it's difficult to reach any kind of consensus and there were people worried about the finances of bringing a show the
size and scope of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series," he stated. "I wasn't worried. I knew it could be done, so I personally guaranteed the money."
A successful businessman in a wide variety of areas including the auto body supply industry, Nichol had no personal gain at stake-just risk.
"If there was going to be a profit, I wanted no part of that. I was just there to cover the loss if it came to that," Nichol said.
Last year's inaugural event was sold out weeks in advance which lent a clue to what was possible and another capacity crowd is expected Wednesday
night.
The true measure of credibility, as far as Nichol was concerned, came when Bayer Crop Science got on board in the way of sponsorship.
"When Mike Gerhardt brought Bayer Crop Science to the table, I knew we had something special," said Nichol. "This is a huge company with no motorsports
history. They're the ones who deserve the credit. They had the vision on how to use this to their advantage in the marketplace."
Nichol also credits the efforts of Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association President Trent Seidel and Track Promoter Herm Hordal for championing the
cause and seeing it through.
"My role in this was tiny. All these other people laid the foundation and did the work," he said. "This is going to be a successful event for years to
come. I'm honored to be able to compete in it."

JASON BEAULIEU SWEEPS SHIPWRECK BEADS NORTHWEST MODIFIED NATIONALS Article and Photos Submitted by Dennis Daniel, DirtModifiedRacer.com
July 31, 2010 - Elma, WA - On a cool central Washington Saturday night, Canadian Modified driver, Jason Beaulieu, bested the field of a record tying
67 drivers, to collect the $2,500 win in the 11th annual Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals.
Beaulieu, who made the 6 hour journey from his
home in Campbell River, British Columbia, held off several late challenges from Oregon star Scott Lenz and picked up his biggest Modified win. "I can't
thank Ted Zerbin and Alien Race Cars enough. This car was great right out of the box." Beaulieu entered the weekend with a brand new car that had never
seen the track. Beaulieu also picked up the victory in Friday night's Pete Muller Race of Champions, netting him another $750 prize in that race.
Beaulieu, who was one of the top 12 drivers from Friday's qualifying events, joined the other 12 drivers on Saturday to draw for their starting spots.
Oregon's Jon DeBenedetti, who had scored the most points during Friday's prelims, drew first and drew the pole. Beaulieu, who was the 11th to draw, was
left with either a 7 or a 12. During his on track interview, he said "I know it's going to be the 12." Sure enough, he drew his pill and it had the number
12 on it. Starting the 40 lapper, Beaulieu would have to start in the 6th row, with former 3-time winner of the event, DeBenedetti on the pole.
After Friday night qualifying and heats, 16 drivers had locked themselves into the A Main on Saturday, with the remaining 51 cars were left to battle for
one of the remaining 8 starting spots. The "alphabet" Mains started with a D and progressed to the B. Only the top 4 would transfer out of the B to the A.
The remaining cars were divided into 2 Last Chance Qualifiers, where the top 2 in each would make the feature. The A Main paid $250 just to start, so making
the feature provided financial importance, as well as bragging rights, knowing that only 24 of the 67 cars would make the feature.
After all the preliminary races were completed, the field of 24 cars hit the track just after 11:00 PM. After a 4-wide salute during the parade lap, the
field was ready to battle it out. When the green flag flew, DeBenedetti wasted no time in showing that he had a great car and was ready to try to win his
4th Nationals. He quickly jumped out in front, but before a complete racing lap could be completed, Curt Coggins stopped on the track, forcing a complete
restart. Craig Hanson pulled his car to the infield and was done before the race had begun. The field got lined back up in their starting spots and got
ready to go at it again.
When the green flag flew again, it was DeBenedetti again powering his way to the lead. Behind, the field was racing all over the track, trying to settle in to
a groove and get to racing. On the first lap, Mark Wauge got a little out of shape directly in front of former Nationals winner Kellen Chadick from California.
Chadwick checked up to avoid hitting Wauge but was tapped from behind, causing him to spin. He spun to the edge of the infield, so as to not cause a huge
pileup of cars. Chadwick, who was driving a car for Canadian driver Lawrence O'Connor, sat at the edge of the tracking waiting for a caution to re-enter the
race. Unfortunately, the caution was not thrown, and Chadwick¹s hopes were dashed, as he would be several laps down.
A tangle in turn 3 resulted in a red flag, as Morgan Criswell flipped his car onto the infield. He climbed out under his own power and walked off the track.
The field was halted and Criswell and another former Nationals winner, Chris Shoemaker, were out of action. With only 5 laps in the books, DeBenedetti
looked to be in control but Beaulieu knew that he had to charge early to try to catch him. Beaulieu was moving forward very quickly. By the completion of
lap 2, he had already gotten into 3rd place and was battling with Grays Harbor star, Scott Miller.
With a Delaware-style restart, where the leader is alone on the front row, while the rest of the field is double filed, DeBenedetti quickly opened a small
lead when the green flag flew yet again. Beaulieu worked hard to get by Miller and did so on lap 6 and looked to track down the leader. The fans began to
feel the excitement as these two drivers looked to be the best of the field and were ready to battle it out on the track. Working lap 8, DeBenedetti still
had a several car length lead over Beaulieu but entering turn 3, the car broke, causing him to roll to a stop at the top of the track in turn 4. A broken
z-link mount off the frame, which is a vital part of the cars rear suspension, ended his bid and handed the lead to Beaulieu.
With only 7 laps in the books, Beaulieu had the lead but did anybody else have something for the accomplished dirt and pavement Stock Car and Modified driver
from Canada? As the field got back to racing, Miller still ran in second but running in third was Lenz, followed by O¹Connor and another Oregon star, Brian
Poppa. On the restart, Beaulieu powered away, while Lenz quickly moved into second and looked to track down the leader. The two of them began to open a
lead over the pack, with Beaulieu only leading by 2 car lengths over Lenz. The field had settled in to racing on the bottom groove, which proved to be the
fastest way around the 3/10th mile clay oval.
By lap 17, the leaders would now enter lapped traffic. This could be the difference in the battle for the lead. Lenz looked to capitalize as he pulled
alongside Beaulieu but could not pull off the pass. Behind the two leaders, who had opened a comfortable lead over third running Miller and Poppa, the
rest of the field seemed to settle in to logging laps. A few drivers were trying charge towards the lead, with defending track Champion, Josh Muller working
up to 5th from his 18th early on.
On lap 26, Poppa was finally able to move by Miller and claim the third spot but was still nearly a straight away behind the leaders, and with several
lapped cars in between. On lap 30, the caution flag flew for the broken car of Josh Cullen. The field would be bunched back up, with the lapped cars being
moved to the rear. Only 8 cars remained on the lead lap, but with only 10 laps remaining, it was time to put it all on the line.
Before the caution, Lenz didn't seem to have enough to power by Beaulieu and take the lead. The restart would give him a new chance to be glued to his rear
bumper and see if he could pressure Beaulieu into a mistake or overtake him. As the laps clicked off the scoreboard, Lenz tried his best to get under
Beaulieu. Although Beaulieu said after the race, "I was real loose but my car had enough power (to keep the lead)." As the white flag flew, Lenz was still
right behind Beaulieu. Entering turn 1, he was able to show Beaulieu his bumper but Beaulieu was able to pull away and take the checkered flag. " I've
been racing a long time and I have to say that this is my biggest win in a Modified," Beaulieu said after the race.
Lenz raced hard and just came a little short but did earn $1,500 for his second place efforts, his second consecutive runner-up at the Nationals. Poppa
picked up his $1,000 third place finish, followed by a last lap pass for 4th by Yreka, California¹s Travis Peery, and Muller in 5th.
Special thanks to Glen and Lisa Vincent of Shipwreck Beads for sponsoring the event, and also adding a $500 Hard Charger award. Congratulations to George
Wade and the hard-working crew at Grays Harbor Raceway for a tremendous event. If you've never been to Grays Harbor, you are missing one of the finest dirt
track facilities in the country.

BEAULIEU WINS PETE MULLER LOGGING RACE OF CHAMPIONS By Jack Fordyce
Courtesy Grays Harbor Raceway
Elma, WA. - Jason Beaulieu of Campbell River, B.C. shot from third to first on the first lap of the 30-lap Pete Muller Race of Champions never looked back Friday
night at Grays Harbor Raceway.
Friday night was the opening night of the two day 11th Annual Ship Wreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals at the clay oval in Elma.
The race doesn't earn any points for the 40-lap feature race on Saturday night, but it is a matter of bragging rights among your peers. To qualify for the
event, you must have been a former series champion at any track, a former NW Modified Nationals Champion or have won a feature race in the past twelve months.
The race is limited to the first twenty drivers that get their registration into the track.
The starting grid was determined by a pill draw by the twenty drivers and Beaulieu draw number three. Jon DeBenedetti of Medford, OR. drew the lucky number
1, but Grays Harbor Raceway Promoter George Wade offered DeBenedetti an extra $500.00 in purse money if DeBenedetti would opt to go to the back and work his
way through the field for the win. DeBenedetti accepted the challenge. Travis Perry fell into second behind the Canadian, followed by Shawn Dorie of St Helens,
OR. Scott Miller of Shelton, WA. and Scott Lenz of Eagle Point, OR. Lenz dropped out of the top five when he had mechanical problems and brought out the
caution flag on lap 7.
DeBenedetti moved into the top five after the restart when he got by Dorie for fourth, behind Beaulieu, Peery and Miller and did manage to climb as high as
third before falling back. Beaulieu had put some breathing room between him and the rest of the pack, but a couple of cautions allowed Perry, Miller and
DeBenedetti to close the gap.
Beaulieu survived the final caution flag just past the mid point of the race and then held off Miller for the win. Peery finished third, last years NW Modified
Nationals winner Jesse Williamson finished fourth and DeBenedetti fifth.
Prior to the feature race of the night, the 67 car field, which tied the record for the most number of cars for the event, went through two sets of eight heat
races series heat races to earn points toward the field of 24 cars for the feature event on Saturday.
The first set of heat races the cars started in an inverted position from their qualifying time, with the second set based on a heads up start based on
qualifying time.
Drivers earned points for where they finished their heat races plus points for each car they passed in a heat race and points for qualifying.
The top sixteen drivers in points after the end of Friday night are locked into the feature Saturday night, four more drivers will gain the feature from the
B Main Saturday night and the final four needed to round out the 24-car field will come from two last chance races. Brian Poppa of Medford, DeBenedetti,
Perry and Dave Duste JR. were the only drivers to sweep both of their heat races.

STANFIELD CLEANS UP IN FIRST HORNET "99"
Langford, B.C., July 31, 2010 Submitted by: Ken Keating
Tonight marked the first ever Hornet 99 race that featured the Steve Copp Construction sponsored Hornet Series and they were joined by the very competitive
Bomber Series racing at Western Speedway.
The program consisted of Trophy Dashes, two Heat races and two Feature events for the Bombers, and three thirty-three
lap Feature events for the Hornets.
Last year's Bomber Champion, Brian Wakelin, suffered a rough ride as he slammed into the turn three wall, during the Trophy Dash, and that ended his night very
early. Brian was taken to the Hospital for X-rays as a precautionary measure but otherwise seemed OK. Blair Davis and Ryan Smith won their respective Dashes
while Rob Gaudreault and Ron Benham were winners in the Bomber Dashes. Giles Cyr and Benham were the winners in the Bomber Series Heat races.
Twenty-eight cars lined up for the first segment of the Hornet "99" race with Jonathan Randal and James Bennett on the front row. Randal led the first lap but
was passed by Candace Van Bree by lap two. She was followed by Jake Matthews, Tom Davis, and Joe Spring very quickly. On lap eighteen, Eric Fournier moved up to
run in fourth but one lap later, Ryan Smith took that position. On lap twenty-two, Cam Stanfield grabbed the lead and was quickly followed by Smith but a yellow
flag came out after just two more laps after a couple of cars got together that included Smith. On a double file restart, Stanfield again went back to the lead
followed by Fournier and Steve Copp. Cam Stanfield walked away with the victory followed by Fournier, Copp, Jean-Luc Lagan, and Mike Halls.
Jason Priddle and Dustin Dash had the front row for the first of the Bomber Feature events. Chris Broughton grabbed the lead after the first lap followed by Rob
Gaudreault and Giles Cyr. On lap five Cyr took over the lead while Gaudreault moved into second with Brandon Steen taking the third position by lap six. These
three drivers raced bumper to bumper for several laps and on lap sixteen, Steen made the pass for second sending Gaudreault back to third. On lap nineteen,
Steen went to the inside going for the lead but got pinched off by a slower car but still managed to remain on Cyr's bumper. On lap twenty-five, the yellow flag
came out as Dash went around on turn four.
On the double file restart, Cyr had Gaudreault on his outside with Steen and Broughton in the next row. With the drop
of the green flag, Gaudreault spun around, going through turn one, sending Broughton into the second spot followed by Chris Stone and dropping Steen back to
fourth as he was slowed by Gaudreault's spin. At the chequered flag, it was Cyr with the win followed by Broughton and Steen coming back to take the third spot.
Twenty-six cars lined up for the start of the Hornet second segment with Glenn Rand and John Lerik sharing the front row. Steve Copp jumped into the lead after
the first lap followed by Lerik and Eric Fournier but on the fourth lap Jean-Luc Lagan took over running third. On lap seven, Garrett Smith grabbed the lead and
two laps later, Cam Stanfield grabbed the second spot dropping Copp back to third. On lap twelve, Phil Lagan moved through the pack to run fifth while up front
Smith was in a tight battle with Stanfield and Copp. On lap twenty-four Bill Peacey took over the third spot with Lagan taking the fourth spot on lap twenty-nine
sending Copp back to fifth. On lap thirty-one Stanfield finally got by Smith and went on to win the second segment with Smith, Peacey, Lagan, and Copp rounding
out the top five positions.
Daniel David had the pole for the start of thirty-five laps in the second Feature event in the Bomber Series and after the first lap, Rob Gaudreault went into the
lead followed by Giles Cyr and Brandon Steen. On lap three, Cyr took the lead with Steen taking the second spot one lap later and then passing Cyr for the lead on
lap five. Over the remainder of this race, Cyr tried everything to get by the sixteen year old Steen but couldn't make it stick. Steen held the inside groove and
was not about to let Cyr find an opening to complete a pass. Steen hung on for the win followed by Cyr, Gaudreault, Chris Stone, and Chris Broughton rounding out
the top five positions.
Bruce Duffus and Joe Spring shared the front row for the final segment and thirty-three laps of racing in the Hornet "99" event. Duffus got the early lead while
Spring hung on to second until lap seven when Marty Anctil took that spot. On lap fifteen, Garrett Smith moved through the pack and took over the third spot just
as the yellow came out. On the double file restart, Anctil led for one lap and was quiclky passed by Bill Peacey while behind him several cars were racing hard
that included, Anctil, Mike Halls, Smith, Cam Stanfield, and Jean-Luc Lagan. On lap twenty-two, Halls dropped out of contention leaving Smith running second and
Stanfield moving to third by lap twenty-six. Over the next several laps, there was a lot of trading paint with several drivers but no serious crashes or mishaps.
When the dust settled, Peacey hung on for the win followed by Smith, Stanfield, John Lerik, and Phil Lagan rounding out the top five. With the third place finish,
and winning two segments earlier, Cam Stanfield came home as the first overall winner in the Hornet "99" race.
The next Hornet race is scheduled for Wednesday, August 4th with very few races left for the 2010 season. Racing will be more than intenses as each of the top
drivers will be looking for more points in the Championship race. The next events, at Western Speedway will be a two day show billed as the "Weekend of Mayhem"
that will feature the Demo Series with the Demo Cars, Demo Trucks, Mini Vans, and the Figure 8 Series. Western Speedway will also have the "Crazy Canuck" back
for another car jump along with the Monster Trucks. This event will see Obsessed and Obsession here for the first time. Come early for the best seats and bring
ear plugs.
