ROSS RACING INC. TO COMPETE FOR THE 2009 KATANA SPORTSMAN TOUR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP
Ross Racing Inc. has teamed up with Tom Berrow, a former Langley and Skagit Speedway Track Champion, to compete for the 2009 Katana Sportsman
Championship.
While we will be running the Katana Tour this year, our association actually started last year. John called me in mid-March of 2008 and
asked if I would be interested in driving his car for him at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe. John had injured his shoulder and wouldn't be
able to drive. He had asked Rob Krickemeyer of R&D Race Products if he knew of anyone that he might recommend. Rob gave him my name, for
which I would like to thank him immensely, and as a result we ended up running 15 events at Monroe. We didn't win a feature main, but finished
2nd and 3rd, and ran in the top five consistently.
At the end of the season, John asked me what I thought about running the Katana series for 2009. Although we would have to change cars he felt
that running a Sportsman car would allow him to run some of the local races at Agassiz as well as the team competing for the Katana Championship.
I thought that it would be a great idea as I had heard that the competition was close and it would be fun to be running at home again. Also,
fewer races on the schedule would suit my needs much better.
John purchased Mike Sproule's car from Penticton with the intention of running it for the season, but has since ordered a new car from the Race
Car Factory in California. At this point we hope to have the new car ready for the first race, but if not then we will run Sproule's car in
the first race and the new one should be ready for Williams Lake.
The team will be sponsored by Advance Testing Ltd. of Surrey, Lucky Luke's Pet Store and Great Canadian Oil Change, both in the Walnut Grove
area of Langley. We are looking for other sponsorship as well.
I would like to thank John for allowing me the opportunity to get back into driving again as I had been out of racing since 1994. Our crew
put in lots of long hours and late nights maintaining the car last year. Many thanks to Rick Dau, Stan Giles, Shane Berrow and Bruce Langille,
and a big thank you to Chris Parker for his heads up spotting.
